you have to find a check cashing place. And you probably will pay a fee. If it is not a flat fee, it will be a percentage. Now a days, you can get free checking accounts...if you have a steady job, you can direct deposit, and the bank will waive all service fees. If you don't have a job, then you might want to think about finding a friend, or even a parent, that you can sign the check over to and let them take it out of their bank. |

For not having your own account, you will pay the exorbitant fees. A cashier's check should be cashable anywhere. Check out a local bank - they will be cheaper than any grocery store or gas station that has that inviting sign that says "Checks Cahsed Here!!" |

lemme guess, someone contacted you through email and asked for your assistance in getting some money out of the country. they gave you the cashier's check, and after you deposit/cash it, you are to keep a percentage for yourself and send the rest back to them or to a third party.
I'm willing to bet that the check is about as good as a deed proving ownership of the Brooklyn Bridge. |

you either drive thousands of miles to the bank it is from or you don't cash it. If the bank does not have a branch in your area then it is difficult. I assume it is made out to you. You can open an account or you can call the bank it came from and ask them how you are supposed to cash it. It is something to think about when you are accepting payment for something. |

Try another branch of the same bank that it was drawn on. I would imagine that they would do it for free. If not, your best bet would be to go to MoneyTree or some place like that and pay the fee. |

Find a cash checking store, like a pawn shop, or some grocery stores will cash checks for up to $300.00. Or sign it over to someone you know that has an account, and have them cash it for you. Or you could open an account with a bank and deposit the money in there, and use it after it clears in a couple days. Good luck |

If the check is computer printed you should be able to cash it at a Wal-mart store for $3.00. If it is handwritten then this may prove to be more difficult. Call to confirm this before you go there.
Another option would be to call the company that issued the cashier's check - explain your problem to them. They may have an affiliate in your area that will be able to cash the check for a fee.
Another option would be to ask someone with an account to deposit it and give you the money. (Their bank will probably put a hold on the check).
