I get a set salary amount each month ..put the exact total of household bills paid by monthly budget plans into one account and use my other account for daily living.
I do some simple maths and work out the daily rate. I draw that cash out daily.
It keeps me to the budget..cash transactions is the only way I know I can survive the month..I have a debit card..but rarely use it..it's so easy to overspend.
Last month phew I made it through..how many of us were glad for pay day..but I had £2.50 left in my purse on the last day..I had no other expenditure so I treated my girls to an ice lolly each...there we got a treat out of all the hard work...
If I have an unexpected outlay..it reduces the daily rate, if I make any savings it increases it...
Sad I know but being a single parent now has it's own stresses but at least I don't have a partner dipping into the pot..Never ever again will I have a joint account with a partner.. Never ever ever.......He left the joint account to me when he went on his merry way..and am working to get the overdraft down to zero..I am on a huge mission..and that is why I work so hard at counting the pennies. |

Don't spend it if I haven't got it. All bills paid monthly, no credit cards, loans or debt. Also have savings for big unexpected bills etc. I keep a spreadsheet showing how things should go for a few months at a time so I can spot any problems coming up before they happen. |

I have a big white board that I make sure I write down the bills and what day they are due on so I remember...
Most of the time, it's easier for me to see it in front of me, rather than just trying to figure it all out in my head. |
