Set a weekly spending limit. Put the rest of your money in the bank. |

You can stop yourself from spending discretionary money. I've had to learn to budget everything because of debt which I got into in my previous relationship, and the high bills that I have to pay. If you are able to live within your means now, you will not have to pay in the future for things that you got in the past. It is not easy, but it definitely needs to be done. |

You really can't but you can find ways to save.
1. I say clip coupons all the time and buy sale items.
I once helped my family turn a $200 grocery bill into a $80 bill for scan and clipping coupons. trust me it is worth it.
2. Put all coins in a jar then cash them in.
3. Buy out off season clothes for cheap at places like plato's closet
4. research sales online
5.research the lowest gas prices in your area ( don't have to anymore)
6. have a set amount you put away if you have a job like 15%
7. set financial goals |

I usually don't. But if it's something I don't really need I just say I could save this up for better uses or whatever.
I'm basically a shop-a-holic so I don't know. |

I make a list of what i need and when i go out i take only enough to cover what i need, i dont take my credit cards, so i cannot afford to buy anything even if i wanted to. |

Make yourself a list of things you really want and need.
Every time you want to make an impulse buy, look at that list, and ask yourself, which would I rather have. Then put x amount each paycheck into an account for things on the list.
Put 10% in a savings account first--then pay all bills, and ONLY use what is leftover.
Use only cash--do not use credit cards or a debit card, It is easier that way to see how much you are spending and how much you have left. When you use ":real" money instead of plastic, you are more apt to not want to part with it.

Well...I have trouble keeping myself from spending money. There is just so much stuff and I really want to buy all of it. It is very difficult, but it can be done. First, I split up my weekly income (for you it may be monthly or 2 weekly) and I make one group for spending (usually one fourth), one group for saving (1/2) and another group that I put towards something that I want (such as an i-pod or computer). I put the two piles that I am saving in boxes and I put the two boxes into my closet where I can't see it. That way, I am not tempted to spend it. Another option, for those who don't want to have a lot of money in their house, is to put the money that you are saving in the bank. Just make sure to keep track of how much money you are saving and not touching, and how much money you are saving for something that you want to buy. Having some money that you are saving toward something will keep you motivated to keep saving and it will give you something to look forward to. When I really want to buy something, but I don't have enough money in the amount I am allowing myself to spend, I think about this: would I rather have this thing that I am tempted to buy now? or would I rather have the other thing that I am saving for? and usually that keeps me from spending my money. I hope this helps you :] good luck! |

If you have a problem with credit cards....take them off of your person and put them in a drawer. Leave them at home.
If you use cash also....only have the amount on you for each week's budgeted "spending money".
If this doesn't work ...you need counseling and help in your issue.
There is an non profit credit counseling group most everywhere these days. |

i think "jee, if i spend this money, i wont have any more money and if i dont ahve anymore money, i dont have food and if i dont have food, i die"
not really but it works! |

Cut your card in two, you'll only be able to get money out by going to the bank.
I think I'm a lot more cautious about spending money when I have it in cash too, when you spending off a card you kinda forget how much you've already spent. |

Put yourself to a test by not spending for a day. Then 2 days & then a week. It worked for me. Please try. Everything is possible if you have the will. |
