If you are not paying fees for writing checks, go ahead and write the check as usual. Make sure, the amounts are clear, in cents, so there is no room for error. The banks are going to love that, since it costs money to process a check through the banking system. |

write the amount of the change with a slash and under the slash write 100. ie: 50/100 and in the little box make sure its .50 or whatever the change is |

on the line, write zero dollars and 04/100's, and in the amount box, as close as you can to the edge by the $, write 00.04
and on the "memo" line, write "exactly 4 cents"
like this:
zero dolars and 04/100's--------$[00.04]
memo___EXACTLY 4 CENTS
i know it sounds ridiculous, but i had to write a check one time for $00.00. no lie, that was the only way i could get those peole to clear my account and stop sending me statements. |

Don't know about the US but in the UK we can write cheques for 1p upwards and cheques don't cost. For convenience though, for small amounts, I just send postage stamps to the value required. |
