How does everyone do it?
I just would like to know. I live an average lifestyle, I drive older cars (1999) but they are paid off and no credit cards but one for emergencies that only has a $200 balance. I have no new debt really, make over $100k, and I live paycheck to paycheck. I see so many other people with new cars, nice homes, etc who I know make less than me. How do they do it? I feel like there is a secret out there I know nothing about.

Loans, loans, loans... Most people live outside their means. If you make $100k per year and live paycheck to paycheck, then there is something else going on. Ask yourself what you are spending all your money on.

Alot of people have alot of debt and bounce it back and forth between credit cards, something you learn being broke. If you owe $3000 then transfer it to a lower interest card, sure enough a diff credit company will offer you a lower rate, transfer it again. The balance never gets less only increases but this can buy time for those of us that dont generate enough income to satisfy financial obligations.

Lots of other people live off debt. If you took a notebook, and wrote down all your spending for 3 months, you will know where all your money goes. I bet a lot of it goes towards eating and drinking out. Note how much you get in the 3 months, from gross salary to taxes, to 401(k), to health insurance, to alimony, to child support, and then groceries, and rent/mortgage. See what else you spend on. You may be surprised.

the dream
Many baby boomers fund their children and subsidize them to the tune of 5 figures per year. I hear about it all the time. Of course there is the usual debt load and credit mismanagement which you wouldnt know anything about as you live within your means. Kudos to you!

may be you need a personal finance course...and it's more than to read a book... you have to live every word in it!

You make $ 2,000 each week ( about four to five times what an average person makes), have no car payments, and no credit card payments.
Please tell us what you do with $ 2,000 every payday. I can imagine that the first $ 2,000 might go toward a house payment and real estate taxes. The 2nd week's income might go to utility bills, gasoline, clothing, & recreation. The 3rd $ 2,000 probably goes to pay income taxes and SociaI Security. But please tell us where the 4th paycheck of $ 2,000 goes, If I had that kind of money, at least $ 1,000 each month would go into an investment program.
