Jenny | How is the credit crunch affecting you? |
I still live at home, but as house prices are all over the place im not even thinking of moving out yet. It doesnt seem to affect me so much as yet.
At work we seem to be having quieter days now.
But i was just wondering how many of you have been affected and how you have coped with it.? |

My husband is in construction. Companies are not growing and building, so most projects have been delayed or canceled. He has been laid off 3 times this year and is currently laid off. I had to get a part time job. We have cut back on a lot of stuff - christmas is going to stink for the kids but they have to learn that life isn't always easy, right? We cancelled the gym, cable, netflix, the list is pretty endless. We shop at Aldi's for groceries. We are both pretty stressed out right now and we argue a lot. The kids can tell we are nervous. For now, thankfully we still have our home because we had an emergency savings. That will only last us until spring though. I can't even tell you the last time I went into a Target or something. We buy almost nothing unless it is food or toilet paper. The kids clothes we have gotten at rummage sales.
Our life is 110% different now than it has been a year ago. |

It hasn't affected me any. I still live at home and am a full-time college student. My credit card just raised my limit from $6000 to $9000, even though I'm currently unemployed and really never use the damn thing (wtf?). If I had the money and was working, I'd definitely buy a house right now, I've seen some crazy deals where I live (Ohio), but, that's probably because there aren't many people around here that have the money, or jobs lol.
I'll probably see how the credit crunch affects me next summer, when I fill out my FAFSA and try to get a loan to cover my Senior year's tuition (crosses fingers). |

Hasn't affected me .. yet. It will soon though =[
Im 16, taking my GCSE's this year. My school had a LONG assembly about the credit crunch not so long ago, addressing all the problems it will to cause us and how we can overcome the issue. The moral they were trying to emphasize was to study, as more people want jobs where there is little vacancies and only the BEST would achieve it. So if that meant getting all excellent grades but one decent grade, that could define your future. It really had me worried and I thought about it for the following couple of nights. I can only imagine how the credit crunch has affected many hard-working people today ..
I just hope I'll get the grades I need .. =] |

My home value has plummeted due to all the foreclosed homes in my area!
Gas is way up and I have a long commute to and from work!
My groceries are more expensive nowadays! |

The drop in stock market lowered my 401K's.
That is about it. I paid off my debts and will never borrow again.
Heck, I'm thinking about quiting my job. |

We have a baby on the way and I have been out of work for 2 months due to complications from the pregnancy. We are in jeopardy of having our car reposessed. Groceries are outrageous. And gas is still to high. Last time it was $90.00 a barrel it was $2.67 p gallon. Its still 3.50 where I am. Our only hope is to move back to our hometown that I worked years to get out of, and let our family help with the baby so we don't have to pay daycare. Yet, we still have to have money to move. UGH!!!!!! |

The credit crunch hasn't affected us one iota. We have experienced several blips in the economy over our working years. Having been born prior to the crash of 1929 and seeing my father , a master craftsman, working for 10 cents per hour on the WPA and later me caddying for those who still had the country club memberships and the money to hire me, left a vivid impression of why money was a plus in any economy. So after service, education was paramount which led to a great work experience, a lead into good paying positions, into saving money, in educating three guys now holding responsible positions and quite a bit of financial security. Many of us were from the generation of the ants and not the grasshopper. ( Aesop's fables ? ) |

As a ome owner my morgage is really high but my house value is tiny. we are hanging in there waiting for the economy to bounce back and hopefully our house will be worth the same as our morgage. if anything now would b the time 2 buy for you buy low sell high. Just make sure you get a good loan with a well known company or bank!! |

well, i live in michigan, so pretty hard. we buy in bulk, eat less steak, eat more ground beef (unfortunately). when we go shopping, we do everything in one day. take more walks. no more gymboree, we go to the mall play area. we mow the lawn less frequently. never go out to eat. buy clothes for our toddler at old navy(on sale), instead of gap or any 'baby' stores. we bought energy saving washer/dryer, at a cost, but cut down on overall expenses. clean with baking soda more and not as much with designer cleaners. my husband and i cannot find jobs, so we live off our savings. we have to pay for our own health insurence, we have a son, and children need health care. we are lucky to have enough to live off of for a while. we just make bills every month...mostly bc we plan on being in this situation in the future...so we are saving. just little things you dont really notice. our life is pretty much the same, just cheaper. |

I feel locked out, like I missed a big opportunity somehow.
Im in college, I have little debt ( less than 6,000).
Currently Im trying to figure out if we are heading for an inflation, deflation or one then the other.
Its hard to buy gold or silver, all I can hope to get is currency and pray its a deflation we going into. Im trying to convince my parents to take thier money OUT of the 401K and purchase gold/currency. I feel stupid for not seeing this sooner, even though I've been reading finance books ( mostly pop finance books like rich dad poor dad and how to make money in the stock market, it gave me a foundation but not a rounded out education).
They didnt bother to tell anyone that a well rounded profolio has assests like precious metals, currency from other nations, stocks AND some property. It doesnt teach you about the economy and it certainly doesnt go into how to be ahead of the curve!
I think my next move will be to examine my bank, backup banks, where I can find a Precious Metals Dealer and a person who will purchase my stuff for cash. I think I will have to buy gold jewelry next since I cant find any coins!!!
I just have to do alot of thinking on my own, in dim light , with little time and growing knowledge. |

The credit crunch does not have a whole lot of impact on most people unless they are trying to get a loan. The price of oil has come down and my variable rate credit cards have lower rates so that makes things easier. |
