How long are old unpaid bills on your credit history?

Additional Details
most of them are in the beginning of 2000

Usually no less then 7 years.

If you inherit a house and a creditor does put a lien on it, you will still be able to live there and it will still be your house, however... if you ever sell it, any money you get from that sale will go towards settling those debts before you get whats left over.
My advice would be, after you inherit the house, take a loan against the equity for ONLY the amount it would take to settle your debts, and pay them off. It will be much easier to manage one payment with one interest rate then it would be to juggle several, as you are doing now.

It can be up to 7 years. But that's going to depend on when the bill was sent for collection. And if it takes time to go through the collections process and then you eventually have a judgment against you, it can extend the time.

I don't know how many, but definitely for years. When my husband and I applied for a mortgage loan three years ago his credit report showed a movie he never returned to Blockbuster that got sent to collections -- in 2000!

Answer is all depends on what state you are in I am in Pennsylvania. In Pennsylvania a creditor is no longer ever allowed to contact you after you have had no contact with them for three years. After ten years they must remove it from your credit report make sure if it has been ten years that you are very very careful about the dates because if you call them to ask you could inadvertenly start the three years over again and then they will start calling you all over again.
