its varies from bank to bank and building society,
the normal cheque clearing cycle is 4 clear working days starting from the day after u pay it in however cheques can be returned unpaid upto ten working days after you have paid them into your account.
as mentioned before a saturday is a non working day so it would be processed on the monday which would mean it should clear on the friday.
the normally show after 2 working days so that the bank can start paying you interest on the balance of the chq however i wouldnt withdraw cash from it due to the fact that if it is returned unpaid it may take you overdrawn and that would encur u charges, your bank would write to you to advise that it has been unpaid but the notification could be subject to delays and in the long run cost you more charges
your branch of the building society can tell you exactly when you can withdraw the cash.
also depending on the sum of the chq there is a process called special presentation which can give the "fate" of a chq sooner than normal but this is only worthwhile if its a larger chq as there is a processing charge,
also (and only in the bank that i work for that i know of) if you pay a cheque into an account held in the exact same branch of the bank/building society that the person whos written the cheque banks in then it can clear the same day as it is interbank interbranch but only if both accounts are held in the same branch

4 days as a minimum is the norm from one bank to another.
10 is about the maximum.
You can check online if your bank has that feature, or by phone.
In a pinch you can go in and ask a bank to clear a check at the time of deposit. |
