How many hours can you work if youre on income support?

Ah!
Fewer than 16 hours a week,

(and if claiming your partner must be working fewer than 24 hours a week)

The disregards are £5 for a single person, £10 for a couple, £20 for a lone parent.

FairyBlessed
You are allowed to work up to 16 hours, and earn up to £20 a week.
So you can do more voluntary work than paid work.
If you want to earn, there is a form you need to fill in for the benefits office.

just trying to make a difference

It has to be below 16 to continue with income support.
You will be able to keep £20 of what you earn, then anything more than that will mean your income support is reduced.
It may be worth while to do 16 hours, and claim working tax credit instead of income support, you may find you are better off financially that way.
However do not forget that any work/income will be taken into account for other benefits, like housing and council tax benefit.
If you are considering work then jobcentre plus and citizens advice bureau can do you a 'better off' calculation to help you decide what to do.

cocojo
you can only work upto 16 hrs you are allowed to keep the first 20 quid you earn then whatever you earn over 20 quid will be taken from your income support so if you get 60 quid income support and bet a job that pays 30 a week you will end up getting 50 quid a week in income support and your 30 wages

Hiya! hours don't even come into as it's how much will earn...as soon as you earn over 20 quid it effects your benefits.

probably 15-17 hours.

iowphil
it depends which country you are in

samantha2eb
Up to 16 I think!!

Caz300
This I know for a fact as I have had recent contact with the Department of Work and Pensions, any money that you earn no matter how little should be reported to them, this includes any money that you win from the lottery.

Any failure to due so will result in an investigation and possible charges may be brought against you for defrauding them. Should at a later date you ever need to go back on Income Support this may result in a delay/decline in your claim.

My advise declare everything that way you stand no chance of being prosecuted, alternatively the Benefit Enquiry Line or your local Job Centre will be able to advise you of the current up to date correct information.

BECKS
Try coming off income support and working 40 hrs a week like the rest of us.

When I last did a payroll in 2000 it was 15 hours a week before anyone had to tell the gov provided t wasnt taxable. Hope its still the same.

heavenlli_61
maybe 25 to 35 hours a week nothing more.

Pepper
Part time hours..20 or so. But check with the service that is giving you that income. You may have to fill out a form to prove you worked those hours also. And the money is deducted from your check.

isleofskye
Its not hours its how much you earn, you can earn £10 per week and not loose your benefit.
