How many of you would stay at a job that doesn't pay much instead of finding bigger and better money and why?
also this job may only pay minumum wage but you get along great with everyone there, they work with you with no hassel when you need them to,and you actually love the work you do,would you still go look for bigger and better and leave that one comfortable reliable job behind?

I am a teacher and generally I do not get paid much as compared to everyone else. However, i would gladly stay at this profession until I retire. I love educating the future leaders of tomorrow and will not trade this feeling for anything. Plus, it is nice to see when your students understand a difficulty subject or provide an excellent input to a certain problem. Additionally, I love having summer breaks, winter breaks and spring breaks to chill out.

I have stayed at a job I like making less money than I could somewhere else for years. My job is hassle free, stress free, and over all a good place to work. I would pick this job over a better paying one because I enjoy it, and money is not everything. As long as I make enough money to make ends meet, my sanity is more important.

money isn't always everything. you need to be mentally happy with the type of work you are doing. I draw blood in a hospital which doesn't sound like a really great job, but I am helping save lives every day. the nurses are great and the patients really appreciate a job well done (especially if they are hard to get blood from). I could make more waiting on tables, but what would that job accomplish - wow, I just fed 50 people meals they could have made at home. how would I better people's lives doing that? also, I plan on becoming an RN and the hospital has a scolarship, so overall the pay is better than I could get when you look at that too.

only if you can find a job that you still enjoy

That's stupid. The only people who would have the luxury of staying in a job like that are people who already have money coming in elsewhere. For example, when I was 16, I worked in an independent bookstore part time. The lady who had the day shift worked from 10 to 3. She was a stay-at-home mom who's kids were all in school and she needed something to do while the kids were at school. Her husband made plenty of money. She'd work for several hours, then go to carpool kids at 3:30. The bookstore was a wonderful place to work, but it didn't pay much.

We do what we need to do. I was happier at the bookstore 12 years ago, but I need more money (plus, I have a college education and would be way overqualified).

The trick in life is to find something you love doing, then find a way to make money doing it. It's a lot harder than it sounds.

Depends on what's important to you. If you're a student living at home and just working for some extra money, then how much you're paid isn't as important as having a happy work environment. If you're someone who has to support themselves then how much you're paid is a bigger deal.

I manage a movie theatre an the bulk of my employees earn minimum wage. One of the things that makes people stay is free/cheap movies and the flexibility in scheduling. Many businesses aren't very accommodating of things like sports schedules or needing time off for school projects. I bend over backwards to accommodate virtually any time off request. It's basically a matter of deciding what's important to you. I will add that none of my current employees are trying to support themselves with this job; all of them are students who live with their parents and only want a part time job.

Good question. If you didn't need the money and your goal in life is to be happy then I'd stay.

Fortunately I've loved all my jobs and now retired.

I was in the same situation when I started at my current job 5 years ago. It was supposed to be temporary, as I didn't get as much pay as I wanted and there were no health benefits. Since I'd been hopping around at temp jobs for a couple of years, I wanted to keep this first perm position I had gotten at that point in my career.
Even though it was tough at first, I worked my way up. I'm so glad I stayed because I love the environment, the people and the hours. I'm making much better money now and can afford my own benefits. Plus, I now have some tenure at a company, which looks great on my resume.
You should weigh the pros and cons. Ask yourself if it's really worth the stress of finding a new job. Sometimes it IS worth it, so I'd keep my eyes open if I were you. But don't bail on the position just yet...

Depending on your financial situation/problems...money isn`t everything.
My husband has a better paying job than me and hates it, I don`t hate mine...

i would stay at the job that i like, and am comfortable at. the other job may make more money, but you may end up hating every minute of it and dreading to go to work. and that seriously makes your life suck.

The first step is to not look at having a JOB for the rest of your life. Most of us have what we call Careers. Some careers take education and some are on the job training. For example, if you wanted to be an engineer or doctor, you would need to be in college. If you wanted to be a dental technician then there are schools for that. If you wanted to be a welder then some schooling is recommended but there are many places who will OJT you.

I would take a look at the long term picture. Even though you may like the job you are in, is this the career you want? Some folks want to work in retail and be managers. So, they start at the bottom making peanuts and work their way to the top.

So, the moral of the story is these people answering your question can't really tell you the answer you need. You need to look inside nad decide what the answer is.

I currently work in a grotty, minimum wage job. I work in a busy factory on a machine that could easily kill me. And I LOVE my workmates. I would never ever think of leaving. Sometimes it's not like being at work at all.

Instead of looking for 'greener pastures', I choose to work a second, casual job, for a couple hours a week, to earn a bit extra. As it is a casual job, it is the equivalent of working another 3 hours overtime at my current job, and it gives my week some variety.

I am also on a VERY tight budget. I intend to pay my house off in 5 years, so my partner (also on minimum wage) and I are living on a shoestring to get the house paid off, so we can invest in more property. We take our lunch to work, grow our own vegies, and buy all our non perishable items in bulk. These things save us a fortune. I'm living on half of what some of my friends earn, and they're up to their eyeballs in consumer debt, whereas we're nearly 30K ahead in our homeloan after 1 year.

There are other ways to make money that don't involve working. You can save a small nest egg and invest it. That's what I did, and it paid off. I had a huge house deposit, which has saved us thousands of dollars in interest. I still have money invested, over and above the homeloan. When we pay it off, we'll buy another house, and rent this one out. It's not impossible to retire well off on a low income. There are people everywhere that do it, because they don't waste money on consumer crap that they go into debt for.

I would totally stay at my job.

IMHO money don't make you happy. If you like the job you are in right now you should stick with it. There is nothing worse than acting like that 'monster' commercial fighting every morning with the rising sun because you hate you job.

I've had that job that carried huge responsibilities, stress, and workers who grumbled constantly. Not worth it. The pay was about what I make now as a receptionist. Go figure!

I just quit one. It was A family operation. The only deal now is the new company has me on hold till April . they are starting me at the beginning of their company,s 3 rd quarter.
The problem I have with this is that I have company,s that
will only work with me and I need to have the million dollar
Bonds that cover any problems that might happen while I am their. or I would be servicing them now. I would hate to lose
1 company because I know they generate my new wages plus a year in work...

Mandolin Moon
that depends. are you supporting yourself with this job? if you are look for better. if not, and it's just to get experience and you like what you do, stick with it. are you sure bigger and better jobs are hiring?

cajunbaby
yeah i would more money more better

Depends whether you like easy jobs or money. To me, I'm at work to make money, not socialize, so it would be a no-brainer for me. Many, though, want "something to do" (are you really that bored at home!?) and/or "nice" is more important than "nice-paying".

This, by the way, is one reason women earn less - they prefer nice, safe, and clean jobs, vs dirty, dangerous, and inconvenient ones (which, of course, pay more). Think oil field worker vs receptionist.
