Most of that depends upon where you live. I could get a one bedroom apartment for about 300/month where I am now. You can count on water being about 30 and power being about 100. Groceries depends on how much you like to shop around for the best deals and how well you can cook. Count on at lest 200 for one person/month. If you end up with a place that has a gas stove or water heater then you have to look at a gas bill. I have never had one so I cannot tell you what one would be. When all is said and done, once cable and internet and all the other bills are added together you would be looking at 800-900/month in this scenario. On the other hand I had an apartment outside D.C. that was 1555/month for rent alone and that was pretty cheap compared to many places nearby. No matter where you are rent is going to be your biggest expense. The utilities will not vary too much, just a few dollars here and there. Just do a search for apartments in your area and you will get a much better idea about what you need to make to afford the kind of lifestyle you want. Good luck and happy hunting! |

Depends on where you live. I pay $700 a month and share a house. I have my room. Plus food and spending money so I spend a little over $1200 per month to live comfortably. Then again I am in New York City. |

i live in northwest indiana and have bad credit -
my rent is $400 (for a shitty trailer)
my car payment is $260 (for a 2008 sportcar)
my insurance is $180 (for full coverage car and renters)
my gas/electric is about $100 a month
my groceries are about $150 a month for two people
and my gas for driving places is another $100
and my cell phone is $40 a month
we dont have cable or internet or home phone
so thats a total of about $1200 a month for 2 people |

LOL I think you have to find a lifestyle that suits you...
We make over a $120,000 a year and don't have much at the end of the month between car payments, house payments, utilities, insurance, food, cell phones, ect.....
I know that we all wish to do it...but |

I am single and live in a one bedroom apt. in NE Florida.
Rent is 500, gas/electric is 100, phone/internet is 60. I spend around 200 a month on groceries, pet food, household items. Public transportation runs me 50 a month. That over 900 for essentials. Doesn't include insurance, cell phone, spending money, money for gifts, money for clothes shopping. I live very cheaply and only squeak by. You should stay with your parents until you at least have enough training under your belt to get a decent job. |

Try calling up a few of the apartments in the areas that you are interested in and ask them about the rents. Some of these might include water and gas.
If you take a 1 bedroom apt, your electricity bill may come to around $80 on an average. Your grocery bill depend on where you buy them and if you are a coupon clipper or a fast food junkie.
For a 1BR apartment in a suburb of Chicago, I used to manage in about $1,200 plus gas for my car. |
