Livin' Life As Mama and Wife
How much credit card debt do you have?
My husband owns ZERO credit cards...and I own about five....in total I owe about $3,000 combined....and I have included this upcoming Christmas in that total (I like to think realistically!)

How much do you owe and what system do you have to pay it all back?

My husband and I have great jobs, but due to where we live, we have to travel for our jobs...and with the outrageous gas prices our income is slashed in half. Sometimes it's hard to make those ends meet without cutting corners here and there! ....and that's where I take advantage of those "minimum payments" on credit cards....and the cycle begins with them never being paid off....!!

So how do YOU do it?

I used to just use mine for gas and anything I knew I could pay back in full at the end of the month. Then something came up where I had to have a balance. Then I bought a mustang GT and decided to make it go even faster than it already was so I put 5,000 into my car. Now I am like, oh my gosh I have a 4,000 credit card balance I better pay it off. Then I bought x-mas and put it on another credit card, so now I owe like $7,000.

That is a lot for me, the most I have owed in my life. I am 25 years old and make $70,000 a year so I will have them all paid off by March if I stop buying things I dont need! haha

Hey you asked! =-)

Any credit card debt is foolish, your husband is correct not to even have a credit card! There is only one thing worse than credit cards from keeping you to build true wealth and that is car payments. Live within your means while you are young so you can enjoy yourself later on!

heybulldog
I dont use credit cards. if i dont have the money i dont buy it.

I never charge anything that I can't afford to pay for. Therefore, when the bill comes each month, it is paid in full.

Zero credit card debt, only thing I owe any $$ on is my house and I'll have that paid off by age 40.

Read Dave Ramsey's The Total Money Makeover. He has something called the Debt Snowball that will tell you how to pay your debts - its a great way to do it. Go to your library and get his book, you won't regret it and its an enjoyable read.

The Professor
Here's the secret to building wealth. Ready? Don't spend more money than you earn! If you can't pay for something in cash, don't buy it. This lesson (taught to me by my father) has served me well. I pay off my credit card balance every month.

I owe a little more than you on one credit card, even thought I have 4. I top using my credit card totally and only my check debit card. I took advantage of 0% balance transfer for 8 months, pay a one time 3% fee (less than $160), and I break down of the balance I owe to 8 install payments (of course this is weighted out way before I applied for this credit card, and see if I can afford to pay if off quicker without the interests). So that i show I do it, I first top charging any thing on it (I would suggest you not to charge your Christmas gifts on there, but budget yourself a mount that you can REALISTICALLY save up from your Oct. and Nov. pay - next year plan ahead earlier so you have more time to save and can save more than this year). Secondly, I utilities the 0% interest (knowing I have very good credit score and the credit will be approved with enough credit limit) intro rate with some reputable credit card company, and know much I can afford to pay within the intro period. Good luck! With good budget planning, you can do it. $3,000 for double income is not that much. I , on the other hand is by myself with single income. If I can do it, I am sure with your double incomes would be paying off much sooner than me. =) ** Pay attention to your interests accrued and the minimum payment required every month. PAY WHICHEVER IS HIGHER. Otherwise, the interest is accruing on the interest from prior months and the balance will snowball to a bigger balance. That way, you never pay it off.

I used to be exactly where you are. Paying the minimum was all I could afford & the bill actually seemed to be getting bigger little by little? When me & my ex divorced I think he filed bank ruptcy & I will never allow myself to get a credit card again! Around Xmas time I start thinking about getting one & have to talk myself out of it! My husband gets a $500 Xmas bonus & we through $500 out of pocket & that's all we spend for xmas. I only buy for my mother & father-in law & my four kids & 1 grandaughter. My husband & I don't buy for eachother & there are no other little children in our family so $1,000 is usually just enough!! My only suggestion would be to pay the minimum on 4 of them & try to pay the highest one off as quickly as possible. Then go down the line to the next..... Good luck! $3,000 isn't that bad for 5 cards, but it's hard to pay them off unless you pay more than the minimum.

1 card,3000 in debt........................

Big Bully
I have 0 balance on my cards. Pay off in full when use them
You wound not have to cut corner if you pay your cards off. The money you pay on intrest alone can be used toward something else

$3000 with 5 cards isn't bad, currently, however, as long as you only make minimum payments, the interest will continue adding to the principal. You should pay off 3 of the highest cards.

Also, we can't compare systems because I'm self employed. I too travel with my work, however, it sounds strange that where you live is more important than reducing the distance from your home to your job...which must be adding up.

I have one credit card, which is a medical card, with a balance of $1400.
