I generally keep about £300 in my current account.
I can transfer any money from a direct saver linked to that current account immediately over the phone as my bank advised keeping no more than this in my current account in case my card gets lost or stolen if I need to or can rely on my over draft until I make a credit into the account. |

If you keep a large amount of money in a Current Account, there is a risk that it could be emptied for you (possibly through a doctored Cash dispenser (ATM) or a lost or stolen debit card)
Bank staff are encouraged to ask customers to move "excess" cash into less accessible Accounts but where some can be transferred quickly should you need extra cash for an emergency.
The ideal is to work out your normal outgoings for a month, then add, maybe an extra £100 for emergencies, and keep just that in a Current Account which isn't earning any Interest to speak of. |

Enough for one month's expenses, everything else is in savings.
EDIT: Why did I get a thumbs down? No I'm not going to reveal my balance online. This question varies for everyone. You should have more in you account if you spend more. Some people need thousands in their account all the time because they need immediate access to thier money, others have limited expenses and may spend only hundreds per month. |

I don't know, I'd have to speak to my people, they look after things as vulgar as cash for me. |
