Wrighty - Gone For Good! | How much do you save per month? |
Is £150 per month a good amount to put into a savings account for if ever my wife and I were to have a baby, we'd have that money set aside for all the costs that come with it? is £150 per month a good amount to save, anyway?

£100. But i always seem to have to use it!!
I know i am going to get it thrown at me for this- but i really have not found babies to be all that expensive- it's when they get older and they want Wii and Ipod, latest trainers etc that it gets expensive!!
I would say £150 is s good a amount and i think you are very wise to be investing into the future and thinking about things the way you are doing- you will make a great daddy!!
reusable nappies- breast feeding aslong as possible....You always get so much given for first babies also! I had so much that he didn't even wear it all! When on the maternity ward you get given huge bumper packs of freebies and then collect more on regular intervals til the age of one! |

My husband and I save $500 dollars each month. And I think any amount of savings is better than none. It is good to save whatever you can afford. Babies can sure give us surprises now and then. |

I save $150 per month (on the American economy that is similar to you saving £150 per month). $100 goes to our savings account (for emergencies and planned big expenses like a house) and $50 goes to my son's college savings plan.
You really need to do a budget before making that kind of decision. Have you paid off all of your debt? Do you have £1000 already sitting in a savings account for emergencies (car mechanical failure, death in the family)? These are important questions. I learned a lot about money by taking a class from Dave Ramsey. He is getting very popular in America right now and he has simple ways for people to get out of debt and build wealth. Check out his website, I highly recommend you do the budget to see where you're at. That will help you set up a guide for how much you need to save.
P.S. Its hard to be "financially stable" before you have a kid... just remember to live within your means when the little one does come along. And invest in their future with a college savings plan! |

It depends. My husband and I put away about $1000 (about 500 pounds) a month but our situation might be different. We are saving for a downpayment for a larger condo and a baby at the same time.
I think the first priority should be to eliminate any and all debts.
I think the mistake that many people do now is wait too long to try for a baby. Once a women is in her 30's her fertility goes down and the chances of having problems with the pregnancy increase. Others make the mistake of having kids before they are financially ready. Be responsible with your money now and it will make life easier later on. |

I recently heard 5-10% of your net pay (after deductions) each month is what you should be aiming for. |

if you can save that , thats good. Any thing saved is good but maybe keep it in a different account from your "unexpected expense" savings and your "rainy day savings" |

If she gets pregnant next month, maybe not, if in 10 years, absolutely fine!
You should save a comfortable amount that you can afford. Dont over-stretch yourself and whatever you end up with, will be off great help with cost.
