We have 3 adults - and with medications we are running close to $1,000.00 a month. We don't go out. We also have 2 dogs that are 110 pounds each.
Darlin - the ONLY way to do it is coupons and comparison shop. I am disabled and my folks are Senior citizens. My mom and I are Diabetics - so no junk food can be in our diets... just all that expensive fresh produce.
You can take your favorite products - get their websites off of the packaging - and wirte them. They will often send you coupons you can print off and use.
Get your Sunday paper - that will give you a lot of coupons.
Keep a little notebook with you when you shop - write down the prices, and then when you go to another store - compare the prices. You will learn what stores have the best selection for your dollar.
Good luck, hon.
Peace. |

you have a kid it's about average!
it's just me and my partner and we spend about 300 a month and we eat out a lot still!
and we don't bring our lunches in! either not most the time!
you figure it;s about 15 bucks a day for 1 adult human to eat! and that's around 400 a month ...
so if you think about that's sort of high so i guess it would be 10 bucks a day for the average human!
eating out
would be 5 bucks for breakfest
between 5-10 for lunch
between 10-25 for dinner
so you are still saving money!
But you can always cut back buy buy genaric and larger sized meats and repack them when you get home! |

I spend about $75.00/week for 2 people but that includes fixings for my 15yr old son's lunch. When my hubby is home we spend around $125/week. It sounds like what you are spending is about average.
You can always clip coupons and watch the weekly ads/sales for each store. When they have buy one get one sales stock up! |

Doesn't sound that bad to me but it also depends where you are.
By moving from middle of nowhere TN to urban GA (lower sales tax) we doubled our grocery bills. The exact opposite of what we would have expected if we had given any thought to it. When we lived in MD we traveled 20 miles to grocery shop in a bigger city and saved money. In our small town there was only one store and they took advantage of that |

Not bad. You should factor in gas used to get to & fro the store. Do you use coupons? |

I spend about $75 to $100 a week for 3 people. I use coupons and it saves me so much. I know I save at least $25 a week or more with coupons. You can get those from the Sunday paper. |

We live in Nova Scotia, Canada...I spend appx. 500/month on groceries. That doesn't include twice a month that we go out to eat.
If you figure in the fact that food is more expensive here, it sounds like we all spend similar amounts on our groceries.
Check the websites of the brand name foods you purchase, they often offer coupons & other freebies. |

the most i spend a month is 300. there is also 3 of us, two adults and a 3 year old. and also there is a large dog in the family, which that is aslo including her food. I live in ohio so our prices may be cheaper than yours, but i really dont know if it is or not. |

No I don't think it is too much. We are a family of four and spend about 450 a month on groceries it also includes cleaning and hygiene products. I do look for deals in the local groceries ads that come out once a week and do use coupons occasionally. Also we have stopped buying soda and most junk food. The kids go thru it so fast it is a waste of money. |

I think that is definately average. We are 2 adults and a 5 year old and we also spend around 350/month. There are places like Aldi and Save-A-Lot that you can really save at, but if you are like us and there aren't any of those within a 30 mile radius of you, then you just have to watch the ads and clip coupons. |

Depends on how many times a month you eat out. (if you eat out 3-4 nights a week, then $350 is way to much). How much woudl you be spending if you included eating out? |

$350.00 a month is not bad for 3 people. I live alone and I budget $140.00 a month and that also doesn't include eating out. (2 to 4 times a month) I do all of my shopping at Food Lion, with the exception of just needing a gallon of milk or loaf of bread. In that case I go to Kroger. It's closer to the house than Food Lion. I know you said you don't use most coupons, but if you will start going to the store alone as well as take coupons of all items you plan to pick up and a calculator and take the time to break down an item that you have a coupon for by the ounce, I think you will find that you can save even more. Also, don't make unnessesary trips to the store for just a few items, unless it's on you way going somewhere else. This will save you gas. Planning your meals will help too. I had a friend when I was growing up who's mom would wait until his dad would get home everyday and ask him what he wanted for dinner and then go to the store and pick it up and then his dad would complain about the amount of gas that she used. She finally got smart and would ask him what he wanted for dinner on Sunday and go to the store and pick it all up for the week on Sunday. |

As a financial crusader, I see hundreds of people's finances per year.
The average amount of spending on groceries that I see is:
$125/person PER month
This spending includes "Everything you buy at Wal-Mart" like personal care products, dog food, etc. |
