How much does it cost if you exceed your overdraft limit?
Also does it cost more the longer you are over the limit?
I'm with HSBC.

every bank is differnt, i dont know about hsbc but im with lyods and if you go over i think they - take £20 and then £12 everyday untill you put the money back in. which i think is RIDICULOUS it used to be just a flat fee of £30

my fiance is with rbs and they charge a flat fee of.... £38 i think, which is far too high

try your banks website, they should have a section telling you their ridiculous over charging policys.

Depends on the bank. Generally, it think it's about $25-$35 PER TRANSACTION.

koiboy
Each bank has their own fees for overdrawing on your checking account. But it's usually around $25-$50 for each occurrence. Most banks will give you free overdraft protection so why not just sign up for it and not worry about going over your limit if it's just a small amount that you plan to pay back right away.

you need to ask the bank, and it will cost you a lot when you get a loan. Your interest rate will be horiible

Even within your bank the charges may vary based on the type of account you have. Call your bank and ask.

My old bank charged a $36 over limit fee. They would charge for each statement period as well until you're in the positive again.

Depends on the bank but its best to pay what you owe as soon as you can because its a terrible situation to be placed once you go further in debt with them.

abizzell4hire
I don't particularly know about HSBC, but with bank of America it's $35 for each transaction.

Kia
Most banks charge between 30-35 per OD. Then there is an OD account charge (usually incurred after a week of being OD). If you don't pay this, then you are placed on something called "check systems". This puts your name in a database which will prevent you from opening an account anywhere else until your debt is paid. Your bank may have specific rules, so i would contact them, also if you OD your account and are expecting a deposit to cover it soon, they may let it slide or reverse a fee (only if its your first and only time).

I don't know about them, but everytime I overdrafted, I was charged $30.

hammer
At my banking institution, it's like 25 dollars the first 3 times you get overdrafted during the year. If you go over a 4th time, the fee jumps to 30 dollars and I think it gets even higher the more often you are overdrawn within a year.
