How much money do you spend in a month?
I know this is a personal question but I was just asking as I wanted to assess whether I spend too much or whether I am a prudent spender.

I am not talking about rent, or bills, or insurance or other fixed payments etc.

I am just talking about personal spending cash.

Last month mine was £717.68 and this is about normal.

Do you consider this high or low?

£200 a month!! I spend that on food alone.

This sum includes food.

I take home around £3k pm net and after outgoings (I have quite a lot of student debt) I have around £1.5k pm to spend and i try to save around £600 pm and i never have any left so i guess it is around £900 pm, so not much difference to you.

I get 2.600 a month, i spend at least 1.400 a month on my kids and the house, its my kids that i spend all my money on, cost me fortune lol, but there worth it. If you can afford to spend that much without being in debt then go ahead after all thats what your working for is it not.

Usually about £200 under what I get paid - luckily!

Two people might spend the same amount and one could be a spendthrift while the other is very frugal. It all depends on what their income is and what their fixed expenses are--and whether or not they are saving. Here is my goal/rule of thumb:

10% of my gross income should be for pure fun money--this means shopping, entertainment, beauty, drinking, dining out, etc.
20% is for saving
10% is for giving
60% is for committed expenses (all fixed costs such as housing, ins, taxes, as well as basic food and gasoline needs).

I can't keep my committed expenses to 60% of my income yet, so I only have about 5% of my income to spend on fun and I only save 10% right now. But each year I am dedicated to getting closer to my 10-20-10-60 goal! You can spend however much you want guilt free as long as you make sure you are reaching your savings (and other) goals first.

Just fun money? Probably $200 a month. What's that in pounds?

its more about what you spend it on .....

Miss Nomer
Whether you're a prudent spender or not depends upon your means.
But don't forget to plan for the future. I know that it's boring but one day you'll be glad that you built up a big pension fund and kept rainy day savings available and had enough to cover yourself when you lost your job.

Wafflebox
I think that's quite high. I probably spend about £400-£500 a month, but would spend more if I had it after paying the damn mortgage and everything!

Less than I earn but more than I should!

Over £700 does seem a bit excessive if you're not including rent / mobile phone / broadband / Sky and so on.

Unless it was a one off big purchase like a new tv or a car or something.

My god that is a lot, I wish I had that sort of money to spend on me. Usually I spend about £200 per month. My wages are paying mortgage etc and am on a good salary.

I consider this to be low.

I spend about £1500 a month give or take.

I do spend too much, I am due a pay rise though!

I really should start to save some money, I'm thinking I might go travelling with a few mates next year.
