One quarter of your income.

The true answer is as much as you possibly can. OK, banks are not offering fantastic rates of interest at the moment, but you could always invest in an ISA. While rates can go up as well as down, inherently, you generally make more off a good fund than you could ever hope for in a bank account.
Don't forget, when we had the FTSE drop to around 3800 points, yes an investment would have been damaged but you will be investing when the stocks and shares are cheaper!!

Try to save 20% of your income for the future and you're retirement. If you save in a pension it can be from gross earnings.

we don't all have jobs like mike where you can both live in a house and save 500 a month, I usually pay my bills and save the rest, when ever you want cloths, its there, a night out, its there. although with the banks going the way they are it probably wont be.

While I was earning and saving for my Masters I put away between 700 and 900 a month from my wage but I didn't have rent, food or travel costs. Saving that much for a year got me £5,000 to live off while studying.

I think its so important to have a savings account for a rainy day. The Post Office are very safe to invest in - they only deal with real money, not "credit" that has vanished because of the current financial situation.

I always put in my saving account a total of £150. a month, of course it's depends how much money the person earns each month and the amount of expenses.. in my case £150 is quite well balance

Antony
No way spend it as quickly as you get it because you never know what may happen tomorrow.

It is best to save 10% of your income. You can of course increase this figure when you are able but the 10% rule seems to work for most people.

Uneducated Moron
you shouldn't be saving anything now. i haven't saved any money for years.

It depends on your age, your assets, your income, your goals, and how much you have saved already, but typically 10-20% of your income per month is a good minimum.

If you want a more detailed answer, you'll have to give out more information! (http://www.vilkri.com/intro/reaching_financial_goals.php can help you out).
