Hmmmmmm....my instinct is to say 100 million, just because if I had that amount there would be no doubt, I would be rich. But if someone gave me 100,000 right now, I sure would feel rich for alittle while, but lets face it that wouldnt last long, I think if I had 10 million dollars, that would be enough to share with family and friends, and still have nice things for myself, and never have to work again, so thats what Ill say 10 million. |

In the 43 years and 8 days I've been alive I have always had a safe place to sleep, I have always had access to food and generally speaking I eat more than once a day, I have always had access to fresh drinking water and I have always been within relatively easy reach of medical care which thankfully I haven't had much use for and certainly for nothing serious. That makes me a lot better of than most of the people that have ever lived, ever in the history of the world, probably in the top 0.001 percent in fact. So I am rich. Everything else is just stuff. |

Forget "rich." That's way too subjective. But figure a substantial nest egg for a family is about 2 million in total assets. Round numbers, figure a house at $500K, $200K each for the 2 kids to go to college, 1 mil to generate about $80k a year for retirement, and a float of $100K for adult-sized emergencies - the sunset child you did not plan on having, the ne'er-do-well child who comes home with his wife and child to live with you, some medical disaster the insurance company will pay for 10 years after you're dead - that sort of thing. So plan to try to put away 2 million dollars over your lifetime if you can. If you don't, well... maybe you get to drop dead on your desktop, or spend-down to poverty. Good luck, but don't think I'm kidding. Have a nice day! |
