i spend no more than a half ... and then use a quarter and the quarter put in a jar and save for next time... then the quarter you saved adds up and you can buy something you like

Every month I SAVE at least 10% of my salary.

Usually its more like 20% to 25%, but under no circumstances will I save less than 10% of my income. And that's going by gross income, not net.

Alll.. money no enough... got to beg borrow and stileal.. some more..

I have no bills or rent, so I usually spend 100% of my wages on 'stuff'. Whatever I don't spend on 'stuff' is used up on other stuff...lol
I buy take-out food, pints of 'Ben 'n' Jerries' ice cream, magazines, bicycle parts and at least one night a week of 'going out'. plus I pick up groceries, household items and do the luandry.

my checks belong to bills before they are even cashed.

I think most people would say 110%

It also depends on what you mean by spent. If I give 15% to the church is that spent?

I spend it on things I need like food, and to pay for my house.
I know the government steals about 30% of it.

Well lets see! My husband is a Towboat Pilot, and I am a nurses aide. Of coarse my husband is definitely the bread winner of this family. We have six great children together. So they have this need to eat and have the nice clothes to fit in, and oh the activities they must attend. We spend ruffly around $800.00-$900.00 a month just in groceries! So I can say we spend about 70% on kids and the rest on the bills. My goodness!

TheManFromKakadu
70%-75% as a conservative estimate. Spent on day to day living,& morgage. Vehicle costs included... The question should include, what is spent on lifestyle?..I know the answer to that one!!

Meeko
stopped counting since 99% of my income were devoted to expenses.

You should save 15% of your take home dollars, after taxes, in a retirement savings account - 401K. This is "no touch" money other than for an appreciating asset like a house..

Then save 10% as disposable money for emergencies. You should have 6 months of living expenses in the bank if you were to lose your job today.

Escrow about $100.00 per month for car expenses - this is a depreciating asset.

More importantly, do not charge on your credit card anything you can not pay off in full when the credit card arrives - not when it is due.

Unfortunately, most people simply fail to understand that if you do not have a dollar to buy something , you will not have $1.18 in the future for it after interest.

Good luck,
Sonny
