Generally, to open an account, it's free. However, some banks charge fees to maintain the accounts if they are under a certain dollar amount.

cave_canem
It depends on the bank, or credit union that you plan on using. A lot of banks and credit unions don't charge a fee anymore to open accounts. There are several fees, but you should do your homework on at least three or four banks or credit unions in your area. Some have less fees than others, and some have no fees at all. Watch out for the banks that say no fees for the first year. After that year is over, the fees are fairly substantial with some banks.

Normally, if it is a good bank, you can open an account free of charge, especially if you keep $500.00 in your savings account at all times. Check around because at some banks, this can qualify you to get free checks..etc....
Some smaller home town banks and Credit Unions offer really good incentives to open with them. Call around and see what all teh bank have to offer...

best suggestion would be to call the banks in your area or see if they list rates on their internet sites. it depends on the bank, usually it doesn't cost anything to open a savings account and checking accounts usually go by the balance. my bank for example checking acct. is free if you maintain a $1000 balance. hope this helps

any bank is just poor as the rest, so that makes no difference. most banks charge 8 or 10 $ a month for what your talking about and about 10 or 12 $ for your 1st 200 checks.

mizzlynn1687
it'll probably be about 50 dollars per account. But that's just the minimum balance to open the account. The money to open it is still yours, so it really doesn;t cost anything......I like capital one......other than that i'd probably find a local credit union in stead of a bank.

It depends on where you live. If you plan on having direct deposit, it will be free. HSBC has a free checking account and an online savings that has a really good interest rate. You can go online to open the accounts. They are pretty good. Good luck

To open a free checking account all you'll need is $100.00 to open it and your Id card. If you are under age you may need a parent with you. I think the age to open one is 18 by yourself.I personally like Wachovia or Cb&t

Bank of America is good. WaMu is a troubled bank and may not be around in one year.

Checking and Savings accounts are usually free nowadays. I like Bank of America, Washington Mutual is not bad either.

ap
You can create a checking account at $25 or something. Good banks are depending on your area.

Washington Mutual will not charge you anything and their checking account provides free checks for life.

Where I live, you can get a savings account for $1 at washington mutual..... actuallt, i think I'm doing that today or tomorrow...

as for the checkings accout, washington mutuall is free, and they give you free checks for life....

I'd say wamu is your best bet

Based on your age, you may have to have your parents open the account for you. I don;t know where you are located, but here in Louisiana there are several banks that will give you free checking and savings with only a $25 deposit.. I use Capitol One and both my savings and checking are free.

Ozzy Osbourne
For my bank it was free! They usually have like a $5 membership bond you have to purchase though (if its a credit union).
