not much chance I'm afraid if you want one soon - the council has a duty to rehouse people who are in priority need and unintentionally homeless and only after that do they consider others.
To fall into a priority need group the applicant needs to be either a family (or pregnant), escaping domestic violence, have a disability or be vunerable for some other reason.
Uninetntional homelessness comes around if you did not bring the situation on yourself (ie you have not endangered your housing by failing to pay rents etc)
Having said all that it is worth registering with your council to go on the housing list - anyone can do it, it doesnt depend on income. your council may have some smaller properties available which may be suitable - most people who go to the council are families so they may have some one bedroom flats which are unused. If you go on the list you will then have the right to be considered for housing association homes as well and you may be able to get a home through that.
Its worth a try - nothing venture, nothing gained etc! |

You can only apply. I know people who are not in a desperate situation that have council house's. It just depends what they have available and where you are willing to live. |

Tell them you are a Muslim immigrant and have no where you live. That will put you to the top of any queue |

The council in most districts dont go on the fact of how much you get paid to it entitling you to a property. Around my area you could be on 30k and still be entitled to a house. Its your other circumstances which entitle you to a house, such as how many family members (Number of children you have), other appropriate things maybe that your current residence is in a poor state of repair and how badly you need a house (such as if you are homeless) |

everyone gets a fair chance, make your application stating that you do not earn enough to buy your own property. lots of councils have schemes where you can buy a property a piece at a time. |

It isnt a case of being poor but what your circumstances are. Most councils work on a points system-where you currently live, your facilties, children etc
I got a council flat when I had been sharing one room with my husband and was expecting our first baby.We had to share a kitchen and bathroom.I had been on the waiting list for 3 years before that when I first got married and was living in one room with my parents.
So the best thing is to sign on for one now and then keep updating as things change in your life.Nothing to do with being poor.
By the way I bought my first house when my son was 3 months old 15 years ago so you can change your circumstances for the btter if you really want to. |

NO CHANCE. Become a drug addict, marry an illegal or go on the dole then maybe you might stand a chance. God loves a trier but the bloody council doesn't. |

Sorry to say Councils don't work like that ,Depending on how long the list is and how many points you have , |

Everybody is entitled to a council property - but you will need to go on their list.......however, the likelihood of you ever getting one is nil! Your able to afford private rent, single with no dependents so unfortunately you would be way way at the bottom of the list. As there are always women have kids left right and centre you will be lucky if you have been offered a property within 20yrs. |

If you work, you have no chance. Similarly if you are of British origin - you have no chance.
Your best bet is to pretend to be a 14 year old girl who is pregnant by her somalian lover. |
