How reliable is Paypal? (Personal Account)?
*From the UK*
I really want to have a Paypal account to have transactions online via an ordinary bank account, but it all seems so complicated & risky. They say they make two deposits then call you to confirm a PIN etc. I don't want to mess up and have my money in jeopardy.

It is very reliable, I have been using this sort of personal paypal account in the uk for over two years now and never had any problems at all. Just make sure you log into paypal using the www.paypal.co.uk site, not a link from ANY email at all. You are in control of your password so dont give that out to anyone. It is as secure as the verified and guaranteed online banking sites used by the major high street banks. I am with Natwest and I use their online banking service and it is brilliant. The reason why they credit two amounts etc to your account is to verify you are the account holder, as long as you follow the instructions you will be fine. Hope this helps. Good luck and happy ebaying!

It is fine, thousands use it. It is a UK registered bank after all.

You will be using Paypal UK.

Yes there are stories of people being ripped off but this is true of ALL banks. It wouldn't bother me in the slightest. I have used Paypal UK for 4 yrs now.

Have used it now for about 6 years and never ever had a problem. Just do not ever give out your details to anyone else on the phone or by email request.

Paypal is very secure and easy to use. The PIN number is just a way to verify your account. You'll see a transaction on your account statement with a four digit number. You enter this and that's you ready to go. They don't call you though and they don't send unsolicited emails, this might be a hacker so like everything online take care.

I have had a PayPal account for many many years now with absolutely no problems. I know of no more secure online financial service. Yes it is a hassle to set them up, and when I moved from Australia to the UK I had to cancel my old account and open a new one, but once you've gone through the process you will find it extremely useful.

In my opinion, paypal is reliable. And very useful because it is so quick (but you can end up buying too many things, it's so easy!!)

It is a bit annoying having to go thrpugh their check in with the two payments etc, but after that its all straightforward.

I think it is pretty safe, and I recommend it.

100% reliable you cannot go wrong with PayPal. Id never do an eBay transaction without it!

I have been using Paypal for a couple of years now...had a couple of hic-ups . and they are a bit slow - releasing your funds...and the commision is a wee bit hefty.. apart from that ..its handy for ebay..

I'm not so sure. A friend of a friend once tried to buy a car over the internet (ebay) and used Paypal to pay. He assumed that his money was safe and assumed that the money wouldn't be taken out of his account until he had received the car.

Unfortunately the seller had copied the Paypal website and therefore the buyer had no rights and there wasn't much he could do. The seller was in Germany and the laws are much too complicated to sue successfully.

Now the buyer has a £5,000 loan to pay off and no car to show for it.

So be careful.

I only have had dealing with paypal with ebay, which after much negative press in the media, i decided to close the account and stick to other methods of payment.

I feel they ask alot of unneccessary card details, and I don't trust them 100%
