How should I dispose of unused checks from closed account?
I would rather not have to buy a shredder.

GatorHunter®
The best way to dispose of any unused checks is to burn them.

Well if you don't want to buy a shredder get a pair of scissors and cut (as many as your scissors will go through) the check into tiny shreds. Make sure you cut through your name between the letters letters and I wouldn't even throw them away in the same trash can.

runs_with_scissors
Cut them up with a scissors.

Good Advice
I agree cut them up. make sure your account number, address and phone number dont stay intact enough for someone to see it or even put the pieces together and get it. teeny pieces

CctbOh
Buy a shredder anyway. You should use a shredder for all forms with your personal information on them to prevent identity theft.

Tear/shred them up manually and throw them out. Or write void on them.

Also if the checks are from a closed account, really nothing can be done with them as whoever tries writing out a check for themselves will be denied the funds if they go to your bank to cash it or if they deposit it into their account, it'll bounce and they'll be held responsible for depositing a bad check.

Use scissors. Then disperse different pieces in different trash bags

l'il mama
If you take them into your banks branch they will do it for you for free.

burn them in a fireplace or somewhere safe like that

Shread them. If someone were to get them, the end result could still be sticky even with the account closed. You don't want or need that trouble.

A shredder is the safest way. Otherwise, you can tear them up. I would recommend throwing different parts of them away in different trash bags though...

I would recommend taking them to wherever you banked or where you bank now and having the bank shred them into a billion pieces.. they use the biggest shredders and you wont have to worry about anyone getting your personal info off of the checks. The banks are required to shred documents like that and will be happy to do so for you!

bnd
if you have opened a new acount somewhere some banks will buy your old checks or give you credit towards new ones...if this doesnt pan out then i would shred them..

Laughing
use the scissors to cut them up, making sure you cut up the account numbers as well.

Simply cutting them in half would render them un-usable.

Barack The Boat!â„¢
Burn them. Thats what my mom does with all of her unwanted personal stuff. Burn baby Burn. If you live in the city, apartment, condo or what ever just snip them up. Shreaders cost as little as 10 bucks. Just buy one.
