How should I start to manage my finances when everything now seems to be out of control? Can't handle anymore
Everytime my husband and I receive our salaries, it will never sustain until the nest payday. In a week, we are cashed out, paying all bills. Eventually we resort to loans and pawn.

You're going to hear the experts tell you to make a budget and stick to it. And, that once you start tracking things, you'll know where to cut.

I will assume you've already done that. And, that every month, you find the budget is busted. Gasoline is up. Fuel to heat the home is up. You're paying a larger percentage of the work offered health care plan. The health care plan is covering less medical bills, and so your co-payments are out of control. Food prices are up almost 30% from last year. You have to pay for this stuff, or you can't go on.

A budget is worthless if you can't stay within it's limits. So, if the budget isn't big enough, what do you do? Bring in more income. Ah, but the dollar keeps going down in value. If you and your husband were bringing in 100,000 in year 2000, you need to be bringing in 330,000 today (year 2007). The dollar has fallen that much. Did you guys get that kind of raise over the last 7 years? If not, that's because you're not in Bush's top 1%.

You can vote for fiscally responsible people. That will help all of us. But, it won't help you today. The loans you take out will reduce your monthly disposable income even further (i.e. it's effectively giving you a decrease in salary).

Drastic measures can be taken. You can downsize your living standards. Move from 3000 sq ft to 2000 sq ft. Move from a trailer park to the car. Move from dining out 4 times a month at a full service restaurant to your favorite fast food joint. Buy mac and cheese instead of real food. Watch your health decline with the degradation of food too. Or, try moving in with friends - or renting a room in your home.

As China and India become more skilled, their standard of living is going up. However, this also means that the wealth of one country (e.g. the US and U.K.) is being redistributed to poor nations. Eventually, the working class (i.e. those of us that don't run multi-billion dollar companies) will be on an even economic level as those in places we used to think of as 3rd world nations. This means - you and me are going to the poor house.

Please, if at all possible, stay away from those cash loan places. The interest rates they charge are way too high.
To start with, first:
Sit down and write down all your bills, rent, other expenses, including groceries.
Are there any bills that you could cut back some on the payment amount you send each month, by 5-10 $'s? Or more?
My father taught me that the things that must be paid:
A roof over your head, clothes (needed) on your back, food on the table, bills paid (at least a payment) each month. Anything beyond that-luxury.
One tip I will give to you that I find works for me: I get paid once per month, so, at the beginning of each month, I write out my budget. Rent, electric bill, phone bill, cable bill. And, a couple other small bills.
The money left over, I decide how much to go for groceries, then the remaining cash, put towards laundry and other expenses.
If I have any money left over, I take the number of weeks in the month (usually 4, sometimes 5), and divide that sum by the number of weeks in the month. That shows me how much I can spend per week, beyond the necessities.
Since you get two paychecks per month, per person, there should always be money for the rent by the first of the next month. And the electric, phone bills, and if you have cable (at least basic) that too.
Try to set aside 5-10 $ per paycheck to save. Evena dollar per paycheck would be good.
Try to buy groceries after making a list of items you need. I have a friend who makes a menu for the month, then buys everything she needs for the menu, and as needed buys the milk, etc.
If you have credit cards--please decide on one basic emergency only credit card (visa or mastercard or american express). The rest, chop them up, and throw them away. Or at least put them in a block of ice in the freezer.
Please check in your area at the YWCA/or other organization for budgeting class to take. Mine was free at the y.
Be willing to talk with those who you owe money too. Especially the electric bill-that is needed-winter is coming. Be putting that as a priority bill to pay.
Creditors, they can take what you send to them-explain to them you need to cut back on the amount you send them each month. At least by 5$. Also, ask them if they owuld be willing to freeze the interest for a minimum payment each month (only that you can truly afford-otherwise, just pay what you can).
I hope this helps you Take care.

Start tracking every income and expense on paper. If you keep track of every dollar you spend, you will quickly see where everything is going.

The next step is to cut out the unnecessary expenses. Pack your lunch, don't eat out, take the bus, don't buy lottery tickets, the list goes on and on.

If you can cut out those expenses, you will find more money available for the important things.

Be safe in a safe place and start small. The marriage thing might survive but when poverty comes in the door love goes out the window.

1.Sign up for some insurance policies, mutual funds, recurrent deposits & fixed deposits.
2. Avoid shopping strictly at the 1st week of every month.
3.Buy less, waste less.
4.Curb down ur profile a bit, after setting ur preferences.
5.Use ur gadgets economically. for eg. wait for incoming calls, switch off few lights.

just wondering
1st thing to do is consolidate you bills. Then budget your money into separate needs. Use cash only and get rid of the credit cards. Allot yourself so much money for groceries and a small amount for necessities and some for emergencies. Get a couple of jars and label them as such and put the amount of cash allotted in those jars. Keep track of your spending by putting the receipts in the jar. Then find a way to make a little extra cash, have a yard sale to get rid of things that are piling up. Don't spend money you can't afford to spend, eat at home and if you like movies allow yourselves one or two rental movies on the weekend, it is cheaper than paying $40 at the theater. Slowly but surely things will start to get easier.

Find Dave Ramsey on the radio and start to listen and pay attention to what he says. He is also coming to TV.

http://www.DaveRamsey.com

He is by far the best guy that deals with these topics of credit, debit, banc., finances, loans, homes, cars, college loans, you name it, he knows it.

I listen to him almost daily when I work. As a biz owner he makes 1000% sense. I don't have credit issues but did in my 20's. And what he says is true.

analyze your expenses. make a list of expenses, find things that are necessary and those that are not. as somebody correctly said don't eat out so often. cut down on your needs which eat into your budget.

if you have debts, find which one carry higher cost in the form of interest. retire them fast even at the cost of curtailing needs. and later in that order.

pay credit card bills on time & in full. don't revolve credit. it is very costly.

find bargain deals.

save some money and invest. when you see your money earning itself u'll be happy and motivated to make it grow.
