First you need to clear up any outstanding charges that you might owe. An old medical bill collecting interests, that sort of thing.
Second, accumulate some reserves in your savings. This is important so that you can show some cushion for when times get rough. We all have an occasional financial crisis and how we deal with them often influences our credit.
Third, once you are firmly out of debt, get back into it. Slowly, with small amounts that you can manage. What I tell my kids to do is use a credit card and pay it off entirely at the end of three months for high value charges that they absolutely need. If you need to borrow more than this, then you need to consider a standard credit loan with acceptable payments. NEVER BORROW MORE THAN YOU CAN PAY OFF WITH YOUR CURRENT INCOME. Everyone has good times and bad, and while we might expect to get a better job next month, you should never count on it for making payments. If you do get a better job, wait at least three months before borrowing against your higher standard. This is a typical probation period and you might find yourself 'downsized' with an 'up sized' payment. Not good.
Best of luck. |

pay your bills on time. stop using the cards. pay more than your minimum (a lot more). and over a years time, you'll see the differance. |

Pay your credit card and other bills on time. In time the score will go up. If you stop using your card for 3 months and make a small purchase you actually get a couple of points for using it. Good luck! |

go to your bank & get a secure credit card. You put the money up...kind of like a debit card, but it's actually a credit card. Your score will NOT improve overnight. We paid of 36k of debt 6 months ago & still only at 650. Be patient. |

I am assuming you either have lots of unpaid bills that are on your credit report, or you JUST paid them off and are wanting to now rebuild your credit.
If it's the first one, you've GOT to pay off those bills! Get on a payment plan, or see if you can get settlements on some balances (I made some credit card mistakes as an 18-year-old and had a $3000 balance on one account - I got them to settle for $1300, no lie! Only thing is, you usually have to pay off a settlement in full, so make sure you can either pay it in full or can get a payment plan on the settlment before you accept it). Once the bills are paid, you can begin rebuilding your credit.
There WILL be companies that will be willing to offer you credit cards with low credit limits (usually $100-$300) to help you rebuild credit. Be SURE you do your homework on these companies before accepting a credit card offer; some are legit businesses, others will rip you off. Be sure you read the terms and conditions of the cards too! Some have fees upwards of $150, which will eat up the available credit on the card. Bottom line, make sure you know what you're getting into. Once you've got a new card, make a small purchase every month or so and PAY IT OFF. Keep making those payments and you'll start to rebuild your credit.
Good luck! |

Pay your largest debts first.....communicate with your creditors or collection agencies to negotiate the best possible settlements if at all applicable. The largest ones first would get you the best possible settlements, or you can try from the lowest to the highest, depending on your financial capabilties and intent. People always say " You cant get blood from a turnip" when it comes time to pay debt that is owed, but remember, vegetables cannot steal money and goods and services from little plastic cards either. |

Why do you NEED to get it up high? Pay cash for the things you need and quit worrying about some arbitrary number. |

Make sure you pay your debts on time. If you can't pay off your credit card by the end of each month you don't need it. Use cash only. When you start seeing the greenbacks disappear it becomes reality. |

Sign up for some credit cards, start buying things, then pay the credit card bills on time and hocus pocus, VOILA! You've got yourself some credit! |

Worked at bank last ten years. All of the things that people say matter are bogus. The only thing that matters is on time payments. Paying off a credit card every month is worth zero points.
You can correct any records that show incorrect information by writing a letter to all of the credit reporting agencies with any proof you have. That is all that Credit Repair firms do for you.
There is a chance that you will get something removed even if it is true. The reporting company has a finite period of time to present their proof. If they do not get around to it, then you win.
So make payments without paying things off, and dispute any negative entries to your credit report. That is about it.
Despite what people believe there is no increase for having less debt, but having a lot of debt with one company is no better than having a little debt with one company.
What is best is having a little debt with a lot of companies that you pay on time. Paying 7 credit cards every month and not paying any of them off is 7 times better than having one. It is on time payments that count period.
Anybody that tells you anything different is just wrong.
Even income means nothing. |

If you have a 416 you should start by paying off everyone you have screwed first. That will bring your score up first and foremost. |
