While in college, I ordered new checks each time I moved (usually ever year). Now I have at least 10 books of brand new checks, all with old addresses. I finally got smart and when I last moved, only ordered one box, compared to the 2 or 3 I've ordered in the past.
What's the best way to destroy all these brand new, wrong-address checks? It'll take forever to shred them with my shredder at home, and I don't feel comforable burning them (in my fireplace)?
Do any of the major office-supply stores offer document shredding?

Shredding is the safest way. You can buy a small shredder for around $20.00. Burning works but you have to make sure everything is completely burnt. Then their is ripping them into very small pieces. Remember what ever method you chose, make sure the account and routing numbers are completely obliterated. I D theft sucks. |

I would not trust anyone but myself to tear up these documents. Just do a little each day, and you will be done before you know it. Best wishes. |

Either shred them, tear them up manually, or write VOID on each check. It may take forever to shredbut you don't want someone to get a hold of your brand new unused checks. |

Sometimes local banks will offer this service. Even though it'll take a while, shred them in your shredder. That way you're positive that the information was destroyed properly. |

You can rip them in half, but that doesn't solve your problem. As long as someone can read your routing # and account # at the bottom, they have you... take your time and shred them |

Shredding them at home is the best. Why trust a company? It won't take that long, just do a book a night and it will be finished in no times at all. |

If you rip them in half, no one can use them. I dont have a shredder myself so I tear them in half and throw half out at home and the other half out at my parents. |
