How to get my money back?
my former friend, who is no longer speaking to me owes a lot of money. how do i get it back

dont be afraid to confront her. so what if she doesnt wanna talk to you. if its obvious that she owes u money, then its not like you're doing anything wrong about asking for it back. and she knows that its the right thing. if you dont take action you'll lose that money.

threaten to pull a legal issue up -- to take her to court!! funny, but she will probably take it seriously and give your money back! Good Luck!! :]

File in small claims court. You can search for "small claims" and the name of your county. It will probably cost about $100 to file.

Or a better idea might be to write off the whole thing as an expensive lesson learned: "Neither a lender nor a borrower be."

whatzerface
First write a demand letter. Make it professional and non-threatening and demand the amount owed. Give the person a specific and reasonable deadline to meet to pay you back. If you do not get paid, file a small claims action. If this person owes you $50 to $150, blow it off... but if it is a significant amount of money, go through the small claims process. You'll learn a lot and the person who owes you will also learn that it is not legal (in some instances), nor is it justifiable to not pay back a debt owed. The cost associated with filing a small claims action is minimal. $20 to $40 to file the Summons and Complaint and about $60 to $90 to serve the person with the Summons and Complaint. Look up a process server on the internet.. I suggest using American Legal, which serves all of the country. Also, the courthouse has information for free legal advice to help you through the process.

Try to open communication with the x-friend again and ask him/her to make good on the loan(s). If that doesn't work, send the person a letter stating the amount of money owed, dates the money was loaned and the agreement made between the two of you when the money was loaned. Give the person a time limit to respond and let him/her know that you plan to take legal action after that date passes if he/she doesn't respond to make arrangement to pay back the loan(s).

Make sure that you send the letter by certified, return-receipt mail and also keep a copy of the letter for your records.

If you have documentation of the transaction, you can file a small claims suit against your ex-friend. It had all better be in black and white, though, otherwise you cannot get a penny back. Trust me, this is from a lot of experience, both personal and business.

elisatorres1978
Well, I think your 'former friend' is a very lucky person. What would be more convenient than to stop talking to each other if you owe that person a lot of money? LOL It's veeeeery clever.

Hm... it seems to me that the fact that that person is a 'former friend' is the best that can have possibly happened to you! How could you have someone who'll borrow money but won't give it back as a FRIEND???

And how can you get it back? What I'd do is prevent my disappointment from taking over, and contact that 'former friend' and remind him/her. I don't that your not talking to each other matters now. You should get YOUR money back. I think you should insist.

ask her for that money back regardless of what you are feeling for each other now. get her to give you that money regardless if its paying back in payments

If you have proof you can take them to small claims court.

You got Moxie
So you loaned a friend some money (lots of it). Did you have them sign an I.O.U. for the amount owed. If it's not in writing it never happened, and a judge will think your stupid and you won't be awarded zilch. . Don't be stupid.
First write your friend a letter, but do not attack them in the letter.
You may want to say something positive or kind about the friendship and let them know that you are grateful to know that they would think of you when they needed someone they can turn to. Let them know even though they maybe having a hard time paying you back, and you will except payments to show good faith. Money should not destroy friendships, but if this person turned to you for lots of money, and has not paid you back you need to find out why. This person obviously has money probems, and you nagging for it back won't work. Find out if your friend really has intentions of paying you back, if this person does, ask when they think and how much in payments can they afford, get that in writing and have them sign it, then make them a copy of that letter and give them the copy. You now have something in writitng. GET IT>
