drive less, walk and use public transportation more, car pooling.

cfoxwell99
There will be a lot less traveling and more job changes to be closer to home.

Spock (rhp)
rather like the Europeans, I imagine.

petrol has been about that high in most of Europe for quite some time. Most folk drive small cars, not huge tanks. Lorries [trucks to you, mate] are also smaller. And some even take public transportation even though a bit of walking is usually required at each end.

People will drive a lot less. House prices far from jobs will drop dramatically. Telecommuting will become a lot more popular. People will live in higher density housing because of the premium on having a good location.

Not a matter of if, but when. And Daniel, don't blame the oil companies - it's the average American who brought this about - their refusal to give up their SUVs, shutting down nuclear power plant building, and not getting Congress to force the automakers to find other alternatives.

the same way people do in other countries: ride their bike, take public transportation, car pool, consolidate their trips so they don't drive as much, get a more fuel efficient car.

Not much will change until folks get smart and get rid of those big azz pickup trucks and SUV's..sorry ...we use way to much gas in the US..

There will be a short period of smaller vehicle sales increase. There will be a demand for better mileage out of vehicles.

There will be a lot of people who will drive a lot less and reduce their family visits, travel, and make shopping trips only once a week rather than the 4 or 5 now.

There will be a lot moving closer to work to reduce the travel expense. Public transit if it happens fast will be overloaded and have tremendous problems with crowding and breakdowns.

People will demand energy efficient devices to save money anywhere due to costs of everything increasing.

Daniel C
It'll be tough. But Exxon will make even more record profits, the rich will get richer and continue not to care about the peasants and their petty problems.

Haven't you noticed that ever since Bush came into office that his administration has pushed hard to create laws that favor business at the expense of the little guy? They dont' care about us, they just care about more profits.

That would devastate many people I think.

Average people already aren't managing.... At least by my first look... so to answer the question. They won't, they will just continue to borrow, file bankruptcy and do it again, it's becoming the Average person's way of life. No offense, just trying to keep it real..
