How will we be able to afford everything if gas prices are gonna be $3.50-$3.75 in 2008?
That's wayyyy too much.
Highest prices I ever seen.

When will they drop again?
Additional Details
Give me some creative ideas of your own.
I'll thumb up what you will do to cope with extremely high prices.

I have to drive over 35 miles to the nearest "big" city to get goods and supplies I can't in the small town I live in. So, I will go to the library, access the computer (free), and if I need something, such as art supplies, comics, etc., or even health aides, I just may do it online instead of driving to town, and using excess gas. While I live in a small town, I can walk to the stores if needed, and the local police have a community service called a "surrey" or taxi. You pay the driver $1 to and $1 back from where you need to go. It is available 5 days a week, only from 8am-3pm, but it helps those of us who are disabled, elderly, lack of income. Fortunately, my car still runs, and if need be I can walk. Every time the gas prices reach that high, I definitely know a lot of people walk and ride bikes, etc. Just try to watch I spend, don't waste money on stuff I don't need.

Gas prices won't be dropping any time soon so don't get your hopes up (in fact they will never drop until an alternative form of car fuel begins to take away market share).

Rising demand worldwide, particulalry in China and India means that more people want gas, but there is still the same amount to go around. This equals higher prices--its just a simple fact that we will have to get used to. (There are tons of other factors that influence prices but simple supply and demand is the big one).

You can save money by carpooling, driving less, using public transportation, and buying more fuel efficient cars. An SUV costs much more and uses much more gas than a standard sedan or compact car.

Well actually I was watching this program the other day about how people really don't think about how gas prices are not extremely high because they dont consider inflation and its effects. I think worse than gas is the groceries, now they are outrageous, I remember when eggs were under a dollar for a dozen and now its almost 2. The good quality ground beef is also 3.00 now.

Get a second job to pay for gas, use public transportation, or stop going so many places

They won't drop again. If they do, it will be a short term drop.

(You know the game, they go up to $3.50 for a month, drop to $3.05 and then go back up to $3.25. A year later it's $3.75, down to $3.30 then back up to $3.55).

At least you have the foresight to see it coming and can plan accordingly (think about how much driving you'll do to your next job, next apartment or whatever). Buy a car with better fuel economy, walk more or get a bicycle. With gas prices going up, everything else will also go up 5%-10%, so you should prepare yourself and tighten your belt.

We will have to get a second job just for gas! I think it is too high now. It is horrible. The ones that barely make it now will be screwed

whats even scarier is everything that is shipped will get more expensive as well, like clothes and food.

You simply learn to drive less, and we can all do that with a bit of effort. Instead of just jumping in the car for every little whim, we learn to combine trips so that we drive less.

Just as soon as we decide to stop sucking up to the oil industry and subsidizing their dominance of our energy policy, and we turn to solar, wind, and geothermal energy, suddenly oil producers and refiners will realize their days are numbered and prices will come down.
Unfortunately, both major parties are bought & paid for by the oil industry $$$.

When we get a president that will fight back against the oil companies it might get better, otherwise guess we will need to depend more on mass transit and more economical vehicles

SadieAnn_1917
You can be sure if the gas price goes up, crime will too. People are going to be piss and rob, kill, and steal.

wisemancumth
they'll drop when Americans stop using so much gas or when we use more domestic gas. Opec charges the most they think they can get away with.

PIKA
i got a honda moped 100mpg i put over 1,000 miles on it last summer! love it...... i think your talking in the US, gas is way higher for most os the rest of the world, unless a govermen keeps it artifically low with subsidies. so really, we in the US pay way less than even central america!

Lynn
That is a scary thought. I will have to work a second job JUST to afford GAS...argh.

Traveler
That's how much it is already in California. We're looking at 4.10 to 4.25. It's costing me $70 to fill up my tank.

GinaD
oh my god that sucks

Oil and gas prices will not be dropping, ever. The best thing that you can do is to conserve energy. There are many ways to do that but first change all your light bulbs to the newer low energy using ones. Then, of course, find a way of transportation that doesn't require gasoline or if that's not possible, at least consolidate your trips. Invest in solar, wind and any alternative energy available. Nuclear is not an alternative because of the possible dire consequences of an accident plus, we haven't figured out how to dispose of the highly radioactive waste, yet. Work near where you live if at all possible and use public transportation to travel. The age of oil is coming to an end so we need to think ahead and think globally!

If you drive 50 miles a day for 5 days a week that's 250 miles. If you get 20 miles per hour then you are buying 12.5 gallons. A price hike of 1 dollar per gallon will cost you 12.50 more per week, if that puts you in the poor house then I feel bad for you, otherwise we're talking 12.50 per week????????

In Europe and Japan, they pay more than that and have for some time. We still have it cheap in the U.S., believe it or not.

I hope they'll drop!

Unfortunately I do not believe that gas prices will drop-

the fuel additve that I use- and has an outstanding track record for increasing mileage- as well as reduce emisions can be found here
