gotcha212 | How would you react to a call from your bank? |
How would you react to a call from your bank if they started the phone call like this:
"Mr. Brown, this is Banker from ABC Bank, in your town. I am calling you for 2 reasons. First, I wanted to thank you for you business and see if you have any questions for me about your accounts or our service. (banker pauses and answers any questsion)
Second, it has been over a year since you opened your last account. Many things change over the course of a year, and I may be able to save you more money. When can you come in to visit with me for a free financial review?"
Would you react positively to a call like this from your bank? |

I would probably react positively if it sounded on the up and up. The banks take so much of our money here and there, if they can save me some I wanna hear about it.
We actually had the bank manager call us a few months ago because we opened something with a 5% interest rate, but after 6 months it goes to 2.5% if you don't sign a paper to "RENEW" it. She called and said "Hey... just wanted to let you know I was looking at your_____ account and it's up for renewal. I'm just going to go ahead and renew that for you, ok?" Well, hell yeah! Thanks a bunch, I forgot all about it.
If it's Joe Blow from an 800 number who isn't even at my bank, I might not like it. BUT if it's someone at my branch and they are helping me manage my money, I'm all for it. |

well, it depends on what time they called but I would probably be neutral and see what they had to say. |

Actually Banks sometimes do solicit and I did get a call a while back from my bank making some suggestions as to do some changes to my advantage. Which I did.
But if you have nothing but a week to week checking acct. I don't expect they can help you too much. So I can relate to some of the answers that have been posted here if that were my position.
Banking is not an option any more, you have so many direct deposits and other activites that have to be done Through a bank that if you have the opportunity to save or make a little more money with yours you would be a fool NO TO.
So don't get mad because they contacted you just politely tell them you don't have a need at this time and if you do in the future you will contact them. |

Thank them and politely end the call. If you need something, you'll call the bank. |

Thrs no harm in knowin wat he is tryin to tell u.He probably wants to convince u to invest. If its not too risky u can think bout it. At the end its ur call. Since i hv worked with a bank, these things are common. |

No Brainer !
Even if you are convinced that the caller is indeed your bank,
Make this conversation extremely short, and do not give one ounce of information over the phone. You can make that personal visit to your bank, you can verify if they indeed made that phone call to you and confirm any services they are claiming to offer !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I got a call like that once and they made me an appointment to come in and discuss these "money saving ideas". I thought that because its my bank its all genuine so i went to the appointment and it was just one of the workers trying to sell me insurance and all sorts of other bull****. Just tell them to get lost!!! |

I would be flattered that they see me as a valuable customer, but I wouldn't open a new account or call them back. |

I wouldn't be rude... there is no need for that. Basically just tell them you don't really know when you will have some free time and take down his name and number and tell him you will get back to him when you can. |

No, their 'kindness' is just a prelude to a solicitation! Otherwise you could never get a banker to call you at home. |

No I wouldn't appreciate being bothered by my bank with a sales pitch. If I wanted to a financial review I would go in an ask for one myself. |

Far too often, they are not really from your bank, but someone your bank has sold your phone number, and they use that as a pretext to solicit you for insurance or other sales.
If your name is on the Do Not Call List, the bank is still authorized to call you, but not their affiliates. The bank may have put in a clause in their terms allowing them to let their affiliates call you.
They probably didn't really say "This is so and so from ABC bank", but, something close to it that makes you think they are from the bank.
Get their first and last name and telephone number. Specifically ask them the name of the company they work for and make sure you get a straight answer.
If they still say they work for the bank, tell them that you will call your bank to verify that they work there. If they really work for the bank they should not object to this.
Otherwise, I tell them I am busy, but if they will leave their home phone number I will call them back about dinner time.
If they say that they don't want to be called at home, you say, "Neither do I".
If they are trying to make you think they are from your bank, they have already proven themselves to be misleading at the very least. Do not give them any information about yourself or your accounts.
Note: Some banks advertise on TV and the radio, bragging about how they saved their customers a lot of money by calling them and letting them know they can get a better deal with a different type of account. So making sure they are really from the bank is very important. |
