Taylor L | I'M 16 AND I NEED YOUR HELP WITH MONEY ISSUES!? |
okay i'm 16 years old as i already covered. and my mom thinks i have been getting out of hand with spending her money, she gives me her debit card and i can pretty much use it whenever i want, because i'm out a lot because all my friends can drive and so on. But i guess this is the last straw and has decided to only give me 100 dollars and expects it to last for 2 weeks! who else besides me thinks that that isnt enough?! i need your honest opinion so that i can show my mom. Additional Details well i get coffee almost everyday, and i eat out a lot thats another issue, and im buying my own clothes now, and usually i never have extra money on that, i just really need tips on spending my money wisely. |

Wow! What a lucky girl you are! Seriously, I have had a job since I was 14 (25 now). I never counted on my mom to pay anything for me since I had my own money. In fact, when I was a senior, I worked TWO part-time jobs so I could make up for the higher costs of being a senior (pictures, yearbook ads, t-shirt, class picture, prom, etc). and still kept up with school work!
I think your mom was smart limit you to "only" 200 bucks a month. I think that is plenty enough. This will teach you to shop for bargains and spend your money wiser.
If you go out to eat, don't eat, just drink water. I did that plenty when I was a teen/college. My friends and I would all go out to eat after church and many times, if I didn't think I had the money, I would just drink water and enjoy the fellowship. Lots of us did that, actually. Or we split meals and tickets.
And as for a job, I don't see why you can't get one. As one person posted on here, you have to be more proactive. Don't just go around filling out applications everywhere and sit back and twiddle your thumbs. My first job (at 14), I called several times and the owner hired me and said he liked my persistence. It was a Christian fast-food chain, so not much glory in that, but I had my own money and boy was I proud! |

What anyone here thinks doesn't matter one bit. You apparently lack self-discipline so your mother is imposing some. Good for her. |

Your mom is right. When you applied for these jobs, did you call them to follow up on the application? You can't just fill out an app. and expect them to come to you. With the way the economy is right now, there are lots of people looking for work. You have to be more proactive about getting a job. Once you do, you will have your own money to spend.
Your mom is trying to teach you a valuable lesson about learning to live within your means. You should definitely cut back on the daily coffee - those can get very expensive. If you have a coffee maker at your house, I'm sure you can find some really good coffee to make yourself and take with you in a travel mug. Definitely need to cut back on the eating out. Try to find other things to do with your friends that don't cost so much. Do they all have a lot of money to spend or do they need to learn to budget as well? If so, you all could work on this together.
Budgeting is definitely a skill you need for the future. Now is the time to learn and practice this skill.
Good luck. |

Hi, the solution is called a job!
YOU ARE VERY WELCOME YOUNG LADY :-) |

Thats $50 a week!! You are lucky as can be. I only get that much a week to spend if I'm lucky and thats out of my own check and I'm the MOM!! My kids will be WORKING at 16 and EARNING their OWN money. Shame on your mom for starting you off with so much allowance and GOOD for her to limit it a little bit now. My kids get a buck a week (they are young) and they have to make sure the chores are done and grades are up in school in order to get it. IF they do more than just keep the bedroom clean and sweep the floors, then they get extra for the extra help. Come stay with me awhile, I BET you would think $50 a week is Wonderful of you mom to do. |

I agree,
although I know that $100 for two weeks can be a big pain in the *** to maintain. Specially if you go out with your friends a lot. When you go out, you obviously have to spend some money. And like someone said earlier, food alone is going to take out most of your budget.
my advice to you is that if it is an option, go get a job. Right now you don't have that much bills or any rents to pay, so you can pretty much use all the money you earn for fun or something that you really want.
good luck. |

Until i got a job my junior year in HS (17 yrs old), i was living on about $100/month (this included the money i got for lunches). Honestly, you don't have rent, you don't need to buy most of your food, no bills... A tip: eating out will kill your budget. |

At your age you can get p/t job & make your own money. Just don't work too much that it will affect your school work. $100 is way too much for 2 weeks, sorry i can't agree w/you on that. You don't have to "keep up" w/what your friends do, be your own person. |

That's a lot of money for just two weeks. be grateful for getting that much, some people get nothing. |

That's way more than enough. |

My kids get a dollar per their age-so there you go, you are over the limit, my kids would have to get a job and a life if they think I would give them that much and/or access to my debit card. |
|

OMFG!! STFU!!
 |
wow your a spoiled brat. get a job. |
