I'm 14, how do I earn $200 in 8 week holidays?
It sucks.
I'm in the time were you're too young to get a real job but too old to do stupid jobs (cleang cars etc.) for parents.

I need to earn $200 in 8 weeks. I'm fit, so anything labourwise is okay.

Thanks!

At 14, it may be illegal for anyone to hire you without a work permit. If you have one, it's a simple solution...the higher paying jobs are going to be, for your age level, admin/secretarial. Get a position as a receptionist or doing some clerical work, and you'll make well over $200 in a month.

If you don't have a work permit then you'll have to do it under the table, which I don't recommend, because people tend to mistreat or scam kids. So the best is to work for yourself at a business that is fairly sure to make you money.

Find out what your local laws are, and get a business license. Being licensed goes a long way as far as letting people know you're serious. If you can't get one yourself, your parents can get one on your behalf. Your state or municipality might have special rules for kids doing businesses just for the vacation though. Ask them about it. You might not need the same things as an adult.

Instead of going door to door like most kids do to advertise their lawnmowing services, put flyers in people's mailboxes early in the morning. The more professional you are about it, the more people will be willing to pay you. If you have any other skills aside of mowing and trimming the hedges, even better. If you can dig up or plant a tree, arrange rocks in a pretty way, repaint address markers on curbs, etc. then you're set. It helps to partner up with a friend or associate you can trust, since having another person means you can do harder jobs, and you have backup in case you're injured.

Find out what other simple landscaping services are charging, and price a bit less.

If you have a special skill, use that, and find a way to market it. Most of the problem of most kids' summer businesses that I've ever known has been lack of marketing. People have to know you exist in order to want to give you their money. ;-)

There are many things you can do as a business. Check the source links for some good articles on the subject.

Make a list of the kinds of tasks you are able and willing to perform. Here are some examples: Washing dishes, washing cars, watching babies, watching empty houses and bringing in the mail, watering plants, feeding pets, walking pets, raking leaves, shoveling snow, sweeping porches and walks, shopping, weeding, hanging Christmas decorations, vacuuming....whatever you can and will do. Then you need to let people know you are available (even when you are available) to do these tasks. You might want to print out a flyer that lists tasks and prices. You can add that you are available for other jobs too.
If you work for $4 an hour you'd need to work about 6.25 hours per week to meet your goal.
Get working!

actuary0424
maybe a farm or landscape company...

Willy
8 weeks, so you need to make 25 bucks a week, easy. Do yard work for family and neighbors, especially older folks who cannot do this work themselves. There is often a lot of things to be done as winter nears. Just let people you know that you are willing to work to earn Holiday cash and with a little luck you can make what you need and maybe a little extra.
Good luck.

birdgirl
dog walking, pet sitting, poop scooping yards, bathing peoples dogs. Hey, lots of adults do this for a living..nothing stupid about it.

boylovers69
how wrong of you to think that you are somehow above cleaning cars and raking leaves and so on. if you need money i suggest that you humble yourself and look for work as you have in the past, i do love that you want to work, just not ready for a job on wall street yet.

$200 in 8 weeks hmm,

Sell things on e-bay, help people with groceries, walk peoples dogs, clean up dog poo, babysit. etc.

I wish I could give you a job but it's very unlikely you live near me plus there's not much I could offer....
Sorry!

Brynn
have you checked the child labor laws in your state??
you might be able to work weekends at like a grocery store or something. you could make that money in no time.

or you could ask for just money for christmas and check under the couch cushions or on the ground outside for money.

Okay, so you are 14, you are smart enough to work a computer- and I'm sure that now that you are a teenager, you have plenty of stuff that you no longer play with that you used to when you were younger. My suggestion, from talking to people I know- is that www.ebay.com is a great way to make fast cash. I'm not sure how old you have to be to sell things, but you can always get an older sibling or an adult to help you register and stuff. Sell some of your old toys (people might want to buy them for over the holidays for their kids). You can also sell old clothes, or just random things that maybe your friends no longer want? As long as you can get help taking the pictures of your items-setting up the account- and shipping them to those who buy them from you, you can make some fast cash that way. PLUS you can get a job because Ebay is a quick way to make cash on the side. As far as getting a job-I'm not sure where you are at location wise, and what jobs would be available to you. But shoveling snow is ALWAYS an option during holiday months. Try putting flyers in your neighbors mailboxes. Good luck!!!

jake_n_toby
baby sit, rake leaves, shovel snow, carry heavy stuff for the old lady next door.

Alex B
Try these:

1. Sell some ice-cold lemonade.

2. Paint the fence.

3. Clean the lawn area.

4. Babysit if possible

Amanda J
With it being the holiday shopping season, people would love to have someone watch their kids so they can get some Christmas shopping done. This is the best time to babysit.
You could do it after school/when the parents get off work say about 4-9.

1 kid for 5 hours x $10/hr = $50 a day

Find a babysitting job, paper route(sounds lame but as you grow up you begin to realize money is money), do people's homework etc.. find little things you are good at that other people can benefit from.

the fox
sell some of your stuff. but ask your parents first. U could help around the house to earn extra money. or help your grand parents.or offer to babysit. help younger kids study or help them with there homework. but ask permission first.

wintairi
How about ...babysitting, raking leaves, winterizing the outside of the house for neighbors.kinda cold to be washing cars..maybe cutting wood/stacking, cleaning out gutters for neighbors..try making up some business card on the pc with chores that you are willing to do on there and your name and number and hand them out to your neighbors parents friends,church..I did this for my son he had more business then he could handle him self so he got a friend to help and they both made extra cash..good luck
