Frozen vegetables are cheap, don't cut down your bill at the cost of your health. Buy a food steamer. They are about 20$ and you can make any number of meals cheaply and healthily. You can steam the frozen vegetables. Also corn (or flour)tortillas are cheap and way better steamed. It is very cheap (@ $.70) to buy a can of beans (or way cheaper if you buy dry bulk) add cheese and possibly;y tomatoes and sour cream and you have tacos. My kids eat these like crazy. Another variation is using chips instead of tortillas.
You can make all kind of stews and soups cheaply, bbq style beans, etc..
You can buy bulk steel cut oatmeal for $.99 a lb. You can eat 2 to 3 weeks of breakfast for less than a dollar. Mix with raisins salt or jam etc...
Bulk rice also is extremely cheap and will last you forever. Steamed rice, broccoli, and hamburger meat is another staple over here.
Potatoes are pretty versatal as well. Try learning what other cultures eat as well. You may find some new ideas that way.
Its actually cheaper to eat healthily and you don't have to only eat ramen and other unhealthy choices to save cash. I know it seems that way though. Just cut down on processed foods. It took me a while to realize this myself.
You dont want to eat only processed foods like you are listing as you will fill your body up with MSG and hydrogenated oils both of which are so bad for you. Not to mention the othe r preservatives and additives that will take a toll on your body as well.

look for deals at other stores. buy coupons. get their store card too. sometimes they are like ten bucks, but if you shop a lot, its worth every penny. that card will save you a lot of money. also, try not to buy brand name stuff. typically they are a lot more expensive then store brand. next time you go shopping, bring a calculator with you. a lot of the time, when an ad says, buy this many and pay this much, its only a scam. you dont save any money so do the math and watch out for scamms and shanigans |

Baked or fried chicken (get whatever part is most on sale)
Pot Roast (7-Bone, Chuck or Round Roasts if under $1.99/lb.) with potatoes, celery onions and carrots.
You can do a beef (or chicken) stew with just about the same basic ingredients, too.
Homemade Chili with ground beef or chuck/round roast cut small, with canned beans or dry beans you've boiled yourself and canned tomotoes & tomato sauce, onions and chili seasoning.
Meatloaf. |

Don't buy chips, soft drinks and wasteful bottled water - that is half your bill saved. |

stroganoff with hamburger
soup and salad
soup and sandwich
Red Beans and Rice
Shop at Sam's, Costco, or BJ's as early in the morning as you can get in the store. Go only to their meat counter, they will have the meat that didn't sell on Friday marked down by between 30 - 50%. Get a food save and spend the time to split the meat into single meal portions.
Join a vegetable co-op in your area, for roughly $30 every two weeks you end up with about 20 - 40 pounds of fruits and vegetables which is a significant cost savings. |

My suggestion is to buy ingredients that you can use in several different meals so that nothing goes to waste, especially concerning fresh foods like veggies that can be expensive.
Salads, tacos, enchiladas, stir fry.
Also, dont get sucked in to using foods with preservatives which can cost significantly less.... keep it healthy. |

mommy to be 1/24/09 or earlier!

Rice, potatoes, get a pack of chicken( legs or thighs) that's always cheap. |

Homemade bean and cheese burritos- Make your own refried beans using pinto beans...it's really easy and I make mine without lard, if you want to know how I can tell you how. I usually buy the store brand block of cheese when I am low on money and I grate it and put it in the burritos...sometimes I add onions and taco sauce.
Macaroni and cheese
Buy a sandwich grill at Wal-Mart and make all kind of sandwiches with left overs from meals.
When I have roast I make roast sandwiches, also I make instant mashed potatoes, grate cheese and sprinkle garlic seasoning and make potato-cheese sandwiches...sounds grose but my family loves them!
On the healthier side...make salads...salads are cheap. You can even do taco salads.
Pizza breads-Buy french rolls, Hunt's or whatever brand spaghetti sauce you use and mozarella cheese and microwave or bake. Also you can make pizza sandwiches on the sandwich maker.
Vegetable rice-Easy to make and my kids love it! Cheap too!!! Let me know if you're interested and I'll tell you how to make it.
Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
I have lots of other ideas...let me know if this helps! |

I've found the best time to hit the grocery store is on Monday mornings. That is when a lot of meats and produce that have not sold on the weekend are marked down to move them by their sell date. Just try not to sacrifice eating well for saving money. One of my favorites is veggies stir fried in a little sesame oil. Cheap, easy, and good for you. |

You did not say if you are cooking for 1 or 3 or 10. But the way I used to shop would to get store brand foods instead of Name Brands, they are cheaper and just as good. I also cooked casseroles (or hot dishes if a northerner) and put them into single serving size dishes and freeze them for later, just heat in microwave and eat.
Pasta is reasonable in price and can strech any meal from hamburger to tuna to chicken. Just be sure to always balance your meals through out the day. |

I would not buy:1. napkins ( use a cloth one that you can wash) 2. junk food (you'll hurt your health and gain weight, thus adding more problems to your life) I WOULD buy lots of vegetables, peanut butter, a few tv dinners(that's what we called them when I was younger. You know, frozen dinners) cereal, hamburger meat, bread, jam, some cans of fruit or fresh fruit if it isn't too expensive and boxes of jello...make some fruit jellos. When I'm trying to save money and/or lose weight, I try to buy real healthy food and present it nicely on the plate...Put a sprig of parsley on the plate, or use a real special plate that may have belonged to your parents or grandparents. I am very sentimental so things like special plates or tableclothes or placemats , flowers from my yard, things that touch my heart, seem to add to the meal and I feel close to those who love me. Good luck. I think most everyone has been in your shoes. Try to get healthy food and eat SLOWLY. Drink lots of water,(CLEAN water) and don't buy so much soda pop. It is not necessary and it costs too much. Again, good luck. |

Something that is very simple and very good is Kielbasa sausage. This sausage kinda tastes like smoked sausage. You can mix it with new potatoes, and pineapple. You lightly fry all of this together just to make everything kinda blend, and put it over rice.Very cheap and very good.Enjoy!!! |

Try buying foods that you can make a couple meals out of.For example a 4 lb. roast you can cook with carrots, onion, celery and mushrooms and have mashed potatoes and gravy with it .The next day you use the left overs and make a pot pie. Use the gravy in the pie for moisture and a mashed potato crust. Also keep noodles on hand just about anything goes with noodles. make goulash - elbow noodles, diced tom., onion, hamburger and bacon or sausage. salt and pepper and garlic. stays good for 4-5 days and to kick it up add cheese.Take advantage of no name stores like save-a-lot or gfs it may not be name brand but with a few seasonings it's just as good. |
