I'm going broke, what should I do?
I had a really great job at one time, then I lost it due to a struggling economy. Now I work for a newspaper (which doesn't pay that well, but ill take anything at this point almost) and I slowly am going broke. I can barely afford my mortgage.

I've decided the best things to do are cut my petty expenses (i.e. cut cable television... but not internet, eat only 2 meals a day spending less than 10 bucks, drink only tap water) But I don't think that is enough.

Im not materialistic, and I havent bought new clothes in years. I usually buy from second hand stores. Im not going to sell my house as my mortgage payment is cheaper than rent, and why would I want to pay someone else for a place to live when essentially i can pay myself.

I've prayed for money, sounds concieted, but without it you might as well not live in America. Anyone have any ideas? And please NO get rich quick scams, I don't have money to invest!

You're taking steps in the right direction.

Do you have a detailed written budget?
Where every dollar is told on paper where to go, so it doesn't just disappear?

I managed to feed myself for a week on $11 when I was broke and unemployed.
Ramen noodles, beans & rice.
A balony sandwich was a luxury I couldn't afford.
But I didn't go hungry.

try this website

daveramsey.com

Eat beans and rice for dinner and nothing out.
Try delivering pizza at night. If you have a car financed sell it.
Possibly even rent a room out of your house.

You're doing the things you need to do to reduce your costs but as a rule the cost of living keeps rising and our pay doesn't keep up and as a result, we pay out more while making less. If you can reduce housing costs i.e. rent I would move to a smaller apartment or refinance my mortgage for a lower rate and save a few dollars there. If you have a car, stop driving unless absolutely necessary and use public transportation when you can.

Good luck !

Some other things- look for bumps and bruises grocery stores to save some money. Also start washing your clothes in cold water. If your computer and TV are plugged into cord strips, then you can shut them off every night to save some electricity. Take away some extras on your phone ie- call waiting, caller id deluxe or even have them step down your internet. If you have a cell phone- try using a GoPhone. They are extremely convenient and you only pay for what you use and in most cases minutes can be carried over as long as you reload your minutes before they're gone or expired. Don't forget also that when getting gas- fill her up- only putting a little bit at a time in your tank eats the gas more quickly. Keep your tires inflated and make sure you are getting oil changes as well. Hope this helped!

Get a second job? Or, if you own your own home, advertise for a roommate to help you share the household expenses and charge them rent.

Get a second job.

Budget well, ditch the old lifestyle that you had when you had a great job..i mean, everything from that previous lifestyle have got to go i.e. cars, big house, expensive clothes and the like. I know that you said, you haven't bought new clothes in years and only from second hand stores..but maybe, you still buy a lot of 2nd hand clothes whether it maybe designer or not, you still buy a lot...or you buy these really expensive "second-hand clothes" that has got to stop...you have got to cut down on your shopping expenses. Try to minimize your electric consumption, eat home cook meals instead of going to restaurants because even if you only eat twice a day..eating out cost a lot more..you could always eat at home.

Set a specific amount that you'll spend everytime you go out..and stick to that amount. If you have a lot of credit cards, ditch pay the dues and terminate the account just leave one credit card..and don't use it unless you really really need to. It's not going to be easy, but that's better than the alternative.

You really need to educate yourself. Financial education is something they don't teach us in school, but is what this world needs because our middle class is slowly disappearing.

Soon we will have the poor, and the rich. I really hope you become the latter. I suggest reading books such as: Robert Kiyosaki like Rich Dad Poor Dad.

Another thing that you might have heard about that has changes so many lives already is http://www.thesecret.com.

Have some faith, trust in God and you'll get out A-OK.

Below me is a FREE email course on how to build your wealth and eliminate your debt. Check it out.

Praying is always a good start; be careful who you're praying to.

You're cutting expenses, and that's good but your immediate need is to get your income level above your debt requirements. Unfortunately there is no real quick fix other than getting a higher paying job, or a second job. Consider making things like chili, stews, or spaghetti...something that will last several days. You will find that this saves more money over time.

Nothing wrong with praying for money; everything we do requires money. You need money to operate in this world of ours.

Read my blog; it describes how I got into the Internet business and provides a step-by-step process for others to do the same. I started my first website for < $200. I show you how.
When you have a little extra cash back in your pocket, consider doing the same. You can't rely on employers anymore to take care of you; you need to do that yourself.

Good Luck! we'll pray for you too.

Russ Grimm
