It is not the bank manager and your manager at work who are dumb. They did not get themselves into this situation. YOU got you into this situation by not paying attention to what was going on. Accept the responsibility and stop blaming others. You need to contact ALL of your creditors, explain the situation and ask to work out a payment plan that you can handle. Try to pay something every month to every creditor. Good Luck! |

First, breathe.
As scary as it is to have creditors breathing down your neck, it is not the end of the world. You're not the only one in this situation. MILLIONS of people right now are in debt and they find solutions. So will you.
Second, while you shouldn't dwell in shame mode, you really do need to get out of blame mode, too. For your own sanity, you need to do the emotionally mature thing here i.e. take personal responsibility for getting into debt in the first place. The banker and the managers are not stupid. They are merely doing their jobs. It is NOT their jobs to bail you out. Getting angry and blaming them for your predicament isn't going to help. In fact, it will only make things worse. Talk to your bank calmly and rationally, and if it really is a bank error and you can prove it, they have to take all the charges off.
Thirdly, look at ALL of your options in ways to raise money. Even if you can't get extra hours on your present jobs...and "no one is hiring" as you say...maybe you can do something else like babysitting, yard work, animal care, even donating plasma or collecting soda/beer cans. Those sorts of things have tided many a person over when times got tight.
By chance are you a musician or have some other talent like juggling or something like that? If your town allows it, consider busking/street performance. Don't laugh...that's how I'd gotten grocery money in the past. As long as the job is legal and moral, there is no shame in taking another job.
Also, take stock of your assets. Is there something you can sell to raise the money? An extra car or a stereo, perhaps? Maybe you can have a yard sale or sell something on eBay and then use the money to pay off some of the debt. Do you have an extra room in your house or apartment? Maybe you can consider taking in a roomate.
Finally, my last bit of advice...and the first thing you should do...
If you can, try to arrange something with your creditors. I would also suggest calling consumer credit counseling services and setting up an appointment. They will be able to show you what your viable options are to clear up this financial situation, help you set up a budget, and they may be able to help you negotiate with your creditors, too, if you aren't able to do this on your own. The weblink below is for the national organization, but contacting them can direct you to your local group.
EDIT:
Also I would suggest reading up on the Fair Credit Reporting Act. There are laws that regulate how a person is to go about collecting debt. If the creditors are calling you at inappropriate hours or being abusive or threatening, they can't do that legally. You can write a cease and desist letter telling them they can only contact you at your home rather than your job...or even that they can contact you ONLY by mail. |

Make better financial decisions. Sounds like you dug yourself into a hole. Here is an idea instead of being on Yahoo! Answers go get a better job. |

First, dump the attitude. Your banker is not dumb. If you are in arrears (that is you owe the bank money) they have the ability to put your account on hold so you do not cost them additional moneys.
Second, return to the store whatever you bought that you have not used. Have a yard sale, a bake sale, go babysit the neighbor's kid, go shovel snow, whatever you can (leaglly) do to pay off your debt.
Third, pay more attention to your accounts. you sound like a kid so it looks like you are about to learn the hard way that messing up your banking and credit can have lonterm repercussions. |

First...dont go bonkers! You will be okay. They aren't gonna come and carry you away or anything! You will just have to call these people and make arrangements to pay them as you can. Don't let this happen again. But you haven't done anything that anyone else hasn't! So...keep calm! |

I have to echo what many others said, and get another job. I know you said that no one is hiring, but that can't be true. I don't know about your situation, but McDonalds is always looking to hire. Just find anything that will give you 30+ hrs per week. Your debt isn't that bad, but you don't have enough income to keep up. Find another job, or an additional job and you will be ok. |

Contact your local credit counselors. Stop using your credit card. Look for another job. |

Just pay what you can on your credit card. The only thing they will do for now is give you finance charges each month which won't be much. Even it's $20.
Someone must be hiring somewhere, anywhere. Try a drug store, grocery stores, bagel shops, retail stores.....Help others in your area, cut neightbors lawn, babysit, help out your grandmother, or parents for some extra cash |

It's not the end of the world to be in debt. There are many people who would love to be in your shoes. Instead they owe Thousands. Don't worry about it. Contact your bank and set up a payment plan. Then do the same with both of the credit cards. And DO NOT use those cards after they are paid off. You will find that the banks are not going to hang you if you are in over your head. They just want a plan. |

The first thing you need to do is take a deep breath. Now, think clearly - is there someone who could help you out, short-term? A parent, a friend, anyone? If you can explain your problem to them calmly, ask for help, and show them that you're taking steps to remedy the problem, they might be willing to help you out.
As to the job problem, perhaps you need to look for different sources of income. www.careerbuilder.com has lots of open positions in many areas; there's also www.monster.com, and many other "Help Wanted" sites. You may have to pound the pavement (literal and internet) to find another job, but you can do it!
The other thing you might do is call your credit card company, explain the situation, and ask for an extension. I know that they used to accept any payment, no matter how small, as a sign of good faith. |

First, calm down, dude. What is worrying going to do?
Second, I think that you should go ahead and take care of the big debt first. Withdraw your checking account money to help pay off some of that 600 dollars. Have you tried notifying IN-CHARGE DEBT solutions? I know that the commercials sound cheesy, but they really work with you to help you pay it all off. Look them up on the web, and get the number:]
Oh, and for your job situation, there is always hope. Even if it means finding a job that you might not particularly like. There is ALWAYS someone who'll hire you. The thing is: You must scope out to a wider range of a verizon....look for something you've never examined before. |

I've heard that if you call your credit card company and tell them your situation that sometimes you can skip a month?? I'm not sure, I just heard it.
Also, if your bank made an error and caused you to pay late or take out a loan some banks will pay that back to you. Just ask them.
Also, can you get another part time job for a little while? Or a personal loan, or borrow some money from a family member or friend?? You should really try anything and everything to avoid going to collections.
Hang in there. |
