evereverafter | I'm scared about moving out and fending for myself? |
Ok so I want to move out. I'm 25, but I'm scared about moving out and fending for myself. What are some things that I can do to get myself outta here, I don't wanna be here when I'm 27. Additional Details My parents were really strict, I wasn't able to get a job until I was 18. |

You sound like my son. LOL.... first get you a binder. List all the things that a person needs (not necessarily wants) to run a household. Check the prices of rent (get a studio at first), utilities (some studio's come with that included), phone, food, gas for your car (assuming you have one), insurance, some spending money, etc... get you prices down, and see if your income affords it. Keep a budget going. List this stuff each month for at least a year or so until you get the hang of it without the binder/diary. Good luck... your parents will be proud of you! |

I moved out at 19. Then got my first job... and was having my 10 year anniversary at the job before I realized that... hey, I'm not sure I'm ready for this!
You just gotta do it.... and don't look back. |

I can relate to you. I was 24 goin on 25 when I moved out. I moved all the way to NY from Chicago. It was the most tough yet best thing I could ever do. I never realized how fast I had to grow up...doing things as simple as grocery shopping..buying the generic stuff...paying bills on time...cleaning up after myself...doing my own laundry...it was a little overwhelming at first...but I loved every minuet of it..and it sure is nice coming and going as you please. Dont be scared....just be careful..and you'll be fine:) |

The first thing is to realize you're an adult and you need to start taking care of yourself.
You want to find an apartment/house where the rent is no more than 1/4-1/3 your monthly salary. When you are making your budget, make sure you include energy, phone, cable (if you want it), car payments, insurance, food and other staples, and try to leave yourself some breathing room for unexpected expenses and for fun.
When you find a place to live, call the energy company and ask for a general estimate of the monthly energy bills including seasonal highs and lows. When you go to turn on your service, you'll likely have to pay a deposit or have a co-signer if you've never had an account in your name. The same applies for phone and maybe cable. |

I don't blame you. The whole moving out thing is terrifying but you need to do it in order to be yourself.
You have to make sure that you have the money or the means to pay for everything, don't forget that after house prices, there are also tax's, bills and household expenditure...So it is a big step but talk to people you know that have already done it.
I would also suggest taking someone who has been through the experience with you when you visit estate agencies. they will know what is going on a bit more and it gives you someone to talk to if the agent tries to baffle you with 'agent talk'.
Good luck! |

lol.. so its better to live their till your 30? I don't think so. Anyways, you should just plan and save. First, you know your going to have rent so price that out go check places out even if you don't have money to move out yet. Also, when you get an apartment you will need a deposit but if you got to rent.com they give you 100.00 back. Second, think about what your going to put in the house and buy thing slowly before you move out. (utensils, layaway for furniture and whatever else you may need) Third, think about all the bills you will have when you move out such as a phone, electricity, trash, cable and internet so you know how much you can spend on rent. I asked around about what people pay so I had a good idea of what to expect and keep in mind when you move out EVERYONE charges a start up fee so just call and ask what it will be. I was so scared when I moved out but I planned as best as I could and I did fine.. Also, a few tips when you need to lower bills is change your car insurance often because it will go down, take unnecessary things off your cell phone and land line until you can afford it. Alright, I hope this helps. :) |

You're scared because you don't have a plan and don't know. Sit down and do some estimating about what it really costs to live on your own. Then make a plan to get yourself there. |

the best thing you need to know is DONT RUN UP A DEBT! You may be chilling on second hand furniture and watching a static filled television but believe me a debt is the last thing you want to do. So, save up enough money for a couple months rent plus security deposits for electricity, water, gas, etc then look for a job that will support you. I cant give you a figure on how much this will cost you as different areas have different living expenses. Plus you will need RELIABLE transportation. If your commute to work is 40 miles a day, the 1987 Chevy Cavalier with the oil leak and faulty wiring is probably not going to last very long, and you will be in debt. If the situation your in is absolutley atrocious with some kind of abuse then by all means, pull out Mr Visa or American Express but if you can avoid it, do so. |

Change is always scary but this is one change you won't regret. You will have independance and that is wonderful for ourselves. To do what we want when we want without anyone complaining. Your own decorating will be so much fun. You can do it I'm sure; and try to do it totally on your own. If you can do it without a room mate that is all the better because once you get one you may have trouble getting rid of him/her. Good luck. |
