ok so i am 14 and since i was about 12 in a half i have been saving up for when i am old like retirement. so i can retire early. every allowance i have gotten i started putting away 12% of the money i got just into an envelope i have yet to take money out of.then the 12% turned into 20% and now it is at 25% but the percentage is higher but i am getting less money.
so my questions are...........
what is a good bank in oregon or even an online bank that has a good interest rate?
should i invest in stocks?
how can i deal with the age issue? because im young so its harder to get a good interest rate for a savings account.
is there a specific bank account i can get like a CD or a 41k i no i cant get the 41k but im just putting different bank accounts that i no of so you can add the stuff you no
so please help and if it matters i am a female.

get your parents to get a CD for you. You'll be able to save and get interest over a long period of time... Im sure you wont be needing that money anytime soon. As for stocks, they are very low right now, but you wont be able to buy them without a portfolio. The only way you ca get stocks is if you get your parents to buy them for you, but that depends if they will let you "intervene" with their portfolio. |

You shouldn't really be worrying about retirement and finance at your age, at least give it until you're around 16 and you will understand it better. |

When I was 14, all I had was work, and a savings account. Unless your allowance is substantial, over 100,000 today, that's all you need. If it is and you want your money to grow faster, have your parents set up a trust account so you can avoid the age issue.
By the way, age or sex have nothing to do with interest rates. Imagine us who are depending on higher interest rates for income. we deal with it too.
I would get the money out of the envelop though, and at least earn a little. You may be able to get around some of the age concern with specific stock investments through dividend reinvestment plans. If this is money your parents aren't aware of, then you may also run into tax issues. At that point no amount of advice can help, only a good lawyer.
Almost every broker-dealer in securities can handle this for you. |

I'm not sure about what bank to use. But I can tell you, don't use online banks. Go to a trusted bank near you. Like Capital or something. Thats the best way to gain interest.
Stocks are a good thing to invest in. But you should study and learn about the stock market before you start investing. And with the economy the way it is now, investing shouldn't be your main priority.
Most banks give relatively the same interest rate to everyone. But if your bank gives more interest to adults then have a parent open the account for you. |
