Yes - i was paid the minimum wage of £5.35 when i was 19 yrs old. I have written letters to my employer stating why i deserve a pay rise - e.g what jobs i do, my responsibilities and how over the year i have gained more responsibiltys and sole cahrge of some areas. organisation and brought some more filing systems to teh company. Yes, you should. It's as simple as that. I don't believe being a student has got anything to do with it, and the reduced minimum wage only applies between 16 and 18.

This is textbook Yahoo Q&A being answered by people who don't check their facts first! The National Minimum Wage was increased again from October 2006, which meant that (amongst other things) the main rate for workers aged 22 and over increased to £5.35 an hour from £5.05 an hour.
That said, there are many jobs which will pay better than yours which do not require specific qualifications - including supermarkets and bars. It all depends on your situation and what you really want, but if I were you I wouldn't put up with that sort of salary.
If it is not possibly to professionally arrange for a slaray raise (i.e. not telling them people on Yahoo think you should be paid more) I would go to an employment agency that specialises in temporary placements, you should easily be able to pick something up above the minimum wage. |
