You are 65 and only experiencing it now. How lucky! I seldom buy shares or futures but I am in the industry...try being the broker and with clients who lost big and not paying....I don't fret...and I'm at rock bottoms with two kids to feed and in debts too...because of my clients....I am still standing and kicking...for the sake of living...for the sake of my kids...I did nobody any harm...yet this. Count your blessings! |

Your are able to borrow money still because you still many assets. Instead of futures you can buy a foreclosed house at one quarter price of replacement cost and live in it. The futures were a gamble like poker. Maybe you can do some financial advising to seniors. There are some seniors you can reach locally. |

Futures are inherently risky investments, which fluctuate sharply due to date limitations and market trends. They're intended for sophisticated investors, and are generally used as a form of price change insurance on an underlying position.
You can't generally become involved in futures trading unless you meet the criteria for being a sophisticated investor (high net worth), so, if you've taken a bath, it's assumed you didn't put all your assets in futures, and are able to absorb the loss.
I think that's what you have to do, now, since your bets didn't pay off. You have to just absorb your losses, and go on, poorer but wiser.
I doubt you have a civil case, or can recoup any of your losses, unless you can show that market makers defrauded you, by manipulating trades or commodity prices. Really, really hard (and very expensive) to do that, however. |

ya i know what u feel...im going thru the same thing,,,but mine is half of urs..and its only 4000 down...since past 6 months or so...
im not too worried about it..(ive told myself to leave it alone for next 3yrs)
its like constant nagging...so i just try not to pay any mind to it. even though it was my hard earned money...but hey .... thats what its for right...it comes and goes. you cant kill urself for it. |

At 65; you deserve to lose all your retirement money if you're buying futures. You do that when you're younger and can afford to take risks; obviously this is why you don't take big risks at 65; or at least diversify properly.
Either fire your financial consultant; or get yourself a few drinks cause at 65 and futures; people would just shake their head at you. |
