It depends upon the income and the life style.
If you have any excess money put it in an additional bank account, which is not easily accessible (ie. a/c without cheque book and debit card and branch is far away).
Or you can open up a recurring deposit account which could be debited to your savings account directly or you can even save in good mutual funds in SIP way which will debit your account everymonth. As soon as it grows to a large sum transfer it to a fixed deposit or even in PPF account where the maturity will be 15 years.
good luck

give yourself a monthly budget.
write down your incoming money every month e.g. your wages after tax.
then write down your outgoings - travel, rent, bills, gym membership, paying off debt etc.
then the amount that is left divide by 4. that is your weekly budget. take that amount of cash out on a monday and don't take any more cash out or use your card.
good luck! |

In managing money, you need to know your needs and the expenses that are just "nice to have". List down all your current spending, identify which you think now you shouldn't have spent or the nice to haves. Use that information as your baseline in identifying your money management. Put a budget on every category of your spending. Always monitor your actual spending against your budget. Spending outside of the budget should require major decision and consider what possible return/benefits it can give you. If you have savings or you spent below the budget, don't spend it just because you were able to save. Instead, set it aside or maybe put it in another account. At the end of the day, it's nice to see actual cash which represents what you have saved because of you good money management.
Happy spending! |

The best way is to control you're shopping sprees and make a basic budget of essentials. You can then work out how much you can relistically affor to save each month. Then get it taken off at source as its easier that way. I use the following site for all of my financial decisions.
It is packed full of articles tips and resources which you can use help make importnat decisions.

Set up direct debits so that all your bills are paid the day your salary goes into your bank account. Do the same with a savings account - preferably one where you don't get instant access to it to stop you spending it. then just take out a set amount of cash each week to get you to the end of the month. don't use credit cards either! |

General rule is spend less than you earn.
If you can't control your spending, ditch your credit cards and store cards.
Spend by carrying cash.
Tough but it works |
