Regarding the hold, realize the ATM doesn't know if you are depositing cash, check, or blank pieces of paper, it automatically follows the rules. Call the bank. Banks will generally work with you in this kind of situation, especially if you have a solid relationship with them. (ie your deposits are always spot on, and you don't write checks that bounce). If they cannot help you, talk to your landlord and see if you can give them a check to hold. |

they are not holding it but you never ever deposit cash into a ATM, it is just that the bank deposits in a bank machine are the last thing the tellers get done unless the bank isnt very busy,
write your check but date it a couple days from now, if the manager catches it say OOPS sorry I screwed up, |

Cash should never be held, but what happens is the machine can not tell what is in the envelope, it is not high tec enough to see between cash or check so basically it will sit in there until a human opens the envelope and posts to your account. Call your branch and ask advice, they may be able to post it for you. For future, always take cash to a human teller to snsure it gets posted to your account immediatley. |

Although I am not in Canada, this is how ATM deposits typically work: whenever you put any deposit into an ATM, it is not technically credited until the bank employees open the machine and get out the deposits for the tellers to work. This typically occurs once every 24-hour period Monday thru Friday, at the same time each day - hence the notices about "deposits made after X time wil not be credited until X time". The machine does work the deposit, it's really just like the night deposit slot, only you have a receipt. Because people can put empty envelopes in the ATMs and tell the machine it's a deposit, your account cannot truly be credited until those deposits come out to be worked by the tellers. Until then, they don't know if it's cash, a check, or someone putting in a fake deposit.
It is usually better to use the night drop than the ATM if you are putting it in after the bank has closed or up to an hour before the bank opens in the morning. Banks typically work the night drops first thing in the morning, in that 30 minutes to an hour before the bank opens. But they might not do the ATMs until after lunch or later. The ATMs are usually taken offline at a set time each day to be balanced, and that is when they get the deposits out to be worked. |

Since your in Canada I'm not sure if banking regulations are the same. Here in the US the ATM or bank machine can't tell if your depositing cash or checks, therefore its all held. Good Luck |

If you deposited cash in your bank today and the check is presented today, you're check should be paid. Contact your bank directly. You want to ask if the deposit is posted, what the bank's policy is regarding cash deposits and checks paid. Also, most banks offer products such as good customer credit which covers deposits upto a certain amount. For example, if you had a $200 deposit coverage, your $150 deposit would be immediately available. It's like the bank extending you credit with no fees or penalties because you are a good customer. And yes I work for a bank! |

Banks don't handle the atms..the transactions are picked up and taken to a another location for verification..i some cases a deposit, whether it's check or cash can take up to 5 days before it's cleared. |

all banks are different but i deposit me check in my account every sunday in the atm it is posted on you account but they have not yet received it you can write you landlord a check and it will go though you money is just posted till they get the money out of the atm |
