I finally have some savings. Should I keep it in saving or put it in a mutual fund?
How to maximize my money?

But it in the savings account right now. We are going through a recession and a mutual fund might not be a good idea at this point.

tincanpuller
You should build up your savings in an account you get to anytime until you have about 6 months worth of expenses covered for emergencies.

Then look for some good growth mutual funds with at least a good 10-year performance record.

David H
I suggest keeping enough cash on hand to pay your bills for 6 to 12 months. Once you have this emergence fund then invest any additional money in mutual funds.

jodester
Give it to me, I'll for sure save it for you. (secretly spending it) lol. I would put it in your 401k or a mutual fund. Don't keep it in a savings because the interest rate is terrible and you won't get much in return.

There is no way to tell when the market will turn. I can tell you though investing now will put you in a better position than if you did 6-8 months ago.

And the people who have seen big losses are still buying just because when the market recovers they will see great return on the new investments.

A Roth IRA is good too. Most let you start with a low balance if you have automatic drafts of $25/mo from your bank account. Try Vanguard, Fidelity, or T-Rowe Price.

Invest. Savings account interest is soooo low it will do nothing for you. When the market goes down, your investment can actually increase. Talk to someone who really know and put your money where it has maximum potential for growth (bank savings account is NOT it)

Andrew
I would stay in a cash position for the time being because the economy is so bad.

Mutual fund. Pays better than a savings acct.

Jared
Depends on if you think you'll need it soon or not. I like cd's from the bank myself, but mutual funds are good too.

Put it in a ROTH IRA if you can afford it.

kesh
its as simple as savings will keep it the same amount the mutual fund will add more money your choice.... im pretty sure your going to go with Cd's
