That is a bit of a complicated question. It sort of depends on your age, your job security, emergency cash needs etc.

As a rule of thumb put about 2 to 3 months of income in a money market account (available at your bank or savings and loan) This can be used for emergencies. The rest should go into some type of IRA plan again depending on your age.

Since it is in savings you have already paid taxes on it so I would suggest a Roth IRA, there will be no tax disadvantage, then when you retire you can withdraw principal and interest tax free.

Lucy.. please.. as much as we would all love to help you invest your money... please don't do it here. Talk to your banker. They are conservative professionals that will do what is best for you.

Mutual funds, mutual funds, mutual funds.

Or a downpayment on a house (even if it's one you will rent out) if you are in a good housing market.

LMVTX is a good one.

Put it in RAD or FTO!!! No joke RAD is a new "walgreens" and FTO will be going up for the next few months and it will top out at $80

What's your time frame? If you don't need the money for at least six years, open a brokerage account with Etrade (www.etrade.com).

Diversify it over these ETFs (Exchange traded funds. mutual funds, usually indexed, that trade like stocks. You pay commissions to buy or sell them):
1. SPY -- S&P 500 Large Cap US Stock ETF
2. MDY -- midcap 400 medium cap US stock ETF
3. IWM -- Small cap US Stock ETF
4. EFA -- Developed int'l ETF including Europe, Japan, Australia
5. EEM -- Emerging Market ETF including Korea, Taiwan, China, Mexico, Brazil, India, Russia

Don't forget to put a 3-6 month emergency fund in a savings account getting at least 5%:

Also, if you have consumer debt such as credit cards charging you 15%, pay it off! That's 15% return RISK-FREE! stock market is around 10% return per year over a long period of time with RISK. So pay off bad consumer debt first!

Good luck!

I would check out the cod rates-cod's just keep the funds tied up for short periods of time like I just purchased one at 5.25 apy for 11 months check it out!

are you looking for a long term investment? If so, the gentleman before me is right with mutual funds. With them you can choose what type of growth/ risk you want but be prepared to keep it in there for some time.
if you are looking at the short term, you could invest in some sort of money market to keep your funds liquid or you could put that money into a CD. Good luck to you.

I think as a start, you could consider those businesses with a very low investment cost. Internet business is one of the ways. I like internet business as it will allow me to work anytime and anywhere. With current technology, the process could also be made automated. With a proper system setup and correct web marketing strategies, you could easily earn some passive incomes.

Find out more by clicking my profile and you will see a link inside my profile page. It will tell you how to setup a successful online business step by step regardless of your experience and background. It will also tell you what are the reason behind each step, how you could go about doing it and where you could get the necessary resources free or at a low price.

Hope that it will be helpful to you.

I would put most of it in a good mutual fund that follows the S&P 500
