get a second job. If you racked up the debt, pay it. Otherwise you file for bankruptcy -- and you won't have to worry about debt again -- because you won't ever get another credit card.

For should start paying your debts. You should drastically cut your spending and/or get another job. You do not even need to make that much for it to help you get out debt. Even if you have an interest rate of 20% you should be able to get out of debt in 3 years if you pay $200 a month.

Skip
The very first thing you should do is call your creditors, they will work with you. Tell them your situation, how much you earn as well as your current debts and necessities, such as rent/mortgage, utilities, car note, groceries etc for you to have enough money left to take care of your daily needs as well as enough to make a minimum payment to them.

They will stop the interest on your debt, give you one single debt to pay off in a certain amount of months. They could very well reduce your monthly payments by about 2/3rds of your credit card payment. There will no longer be
interest accumulating on your account.

If you can get a lump sum of cash at once, most will take a reduction on the principal amount they will accept. For instance if you owe one card somewhere in the nieghborhood of $1000, they, in some instances take 1/3 of that amount, but it must be paid all at once and before the month that is offered is up. Do this with each card if you have more than one card. If you only have one card totalling $6,000 then they would want the minimum of approximately $2000.00.
Ensure that they place on your credit report "PAID" as oppose to "PAID COLLECTON"

Another thing getting a debt consolidator to assist you is sometimes consider the equivalence of bankruptcy,so you might want to be careful there, though their services are sometimes necessary. Call and ask questions of them, then ask questions of a bankruptcy attorney to find out which might serve you better.

In my opinion a bankruptcy or debt consolidation is the last option, you can do the same thing they can, without paying a fee to either.

The other thing you should know it that in most instances when you have not paid in a long time, the credit card holder will in all probably sell your debt to someone else. At that time you will start receiving mail from them stating that they have bought your debt and you need to paying them. Most credit card companies will not take you to court, but will sell your debt to a debt collector after their collections department have been unsuccessful at getting you to pay them. Even the debt collector will not normally take you to court either,as they would be in court and spending useless dollars trying to collect.

Now if you have all your $6000.00 debt in one credit card this is a large amount and could put you in a different category.

I hope this will be of some help to you. I hope you get yourself out of your present situation.

I suggest you to sell everything you have (Including your bed) and pay them.

everyone!!!! the one and only solution to stay out of debt for life is: cut or rip your bank crap cards out of your pocket!! and use to old fashioned way!! go to the bank, take out only as much cash as you need for one week, have patience!! I am telling you, I do this, and I am in no debt, i still have everything i want. my life is fully in control, i have no stress, more in my bank than people who carry cards and have nothing left by the end of the month!!!!

after you get out of this trouble you have, make sure you follow the "go to the bank, and carry cash for one week" rule! It WILL help you!

Whatever you do, try not to file bankruptcy. I agree with the person that says to call the credit card agencies and get a payment plan worked out. Usually they will work with you. Bankruptcy is not a solution to a problem even though it sounds like it may be. There are plenty of people with way more than $6000 in debt. You are not that bad off even though it may seem a little overwhelming. Take it one step at a time.

ahaha, pay your bills!

man, $6k is a joke -- you're pathetic.

a. don't charge another dime.

b. contact your credit companies and ask them if they'll lower your rates and/or work with you on a replayment plan. they'll gladly accept whatever they can get rather than nothing at all.

c. contact a consumer credit protection agency for help on a debt repayment plan -- it's not as bad as bankruptcy and they have the power to make arrangements with your creditors: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/edcams/credit/coninfo_debt.htm

it's really a shame that you might ruin your credit rating over just $6000. try to find a way to work with them however you can.

EDIT: you absolutely would get more credit cards after going bankrupt. they PREY on bankruptcy claimants because they know you can't file for another 7 years. but that should be your last resort.
