You will probably owe them the 35 dollars plus around another 30 for a overdraft fee!
Most places are like that! Ha.

Nothing bad will happen unless you allow the overdraft to continue ~ the bank can penalize you for each day your account is overdrawn. Go in tomorrow directly to a teller (do not use the ATM) and deposit the $40 check. Ask that it be posted immediately so as to cover the overdraft. |

You're going to have an overdraft charge. Generally that is $35. So, you need to deposit at least $75 to have a positive balance. |

A negative account balance just means you owe the bank money for fees and whatnot. Go and pay the amount (40 dollars should be fine) and put it in your bank. They'll take the 35 out for you... and everything should be a.o.k.
They take money from you usually at the start of every month, so just keep that in mind! Try and keep the payments low too.. ask the teller some of the ways you can prevent having to pay THAT much next time! Sure.. it's only 35... but it's 35 that's NOT in your pocket!!
ps- the teller is the person at the desks inside the bank itself! :P |

~~As long as you go and make a deposit and bring your account out of the negative, you will have no further problems. This kind of thing happens to the best of us! They do not report to the credit agencies unless they take you in to collections.~~ |

They may charge you a NSF fee, which is about $35.
You probably should meet someone at the bank - teller, manager and tell this that this is your first time (and you never realized it) and that you will make sure that it doesn't happen in the future and they may waive it.
