I have accumulated a large number of pennies and two pence. Will the bank accept it?
I want to know of any useful and innovative ways to get rid of it.

You can get some money bags from the bank and pay it in in measured amounts, or use one of the sorting machines at your local supermarket. There is a small charge for that though. Or go to your local council office and pay your council tax with it.

kturner28
Ask the bank for little bags and then you have to count it up yourself.
Big supermarkets are now accepting them, just pour it into a machine BUT you have to pay 8% commission. My mum often pays her council tax in pennies, and makes the buggers count it!!

depends on the teller they may have a moan at you but if the queens head is on the coin they have to accept it even if the teller doesnt like it

yes.Ask for some money bags from your bank then you have to sort them into 1 pound in each bag.

If you take it to the bank it has to be sorted into bags £1 each.

Banks will take any kind of money you can give them

trish s
They have to but you will need to bag it up to their specification..Just ask the bank for some cash bags (free) and do what it says on the packet !!!

Depends on the bank, but you will have to sort the coins out yourself and put them into plastic money bags.

Woolworths do an electric coin sorter for about £20 - £25

Try the arcades in Matlock? They still have machines that take 2p's. Give the pennies to a charity shop...

Depends on the bank. Some Sainsburys have got machines that will exchange them for a Shopping Voucher

After there recent profit announcement they wont be taking anything smaller than pound coins.

yaff
Yes they will. But in my local Tesco they have a money changing machine. Its got a big tray just pour all your money into it, it does not have to be sorted it will sort through it for you and about 30 seconds later it will convert it onto a voucher that you can either spend at the till or go to the customer service desk and they will cash it for you. I think Sainsbury's have the machine aswell.

Asda have a coin counting machine but the charge to use it is quite high. Get some coin bags from a local bank and bag them up. Keep different value coins apart. Count carefully, they weigh them. Treat yourself with the proceeds.

I cashed nearly 68 pounds worth of coins a couple of weeks back at sainsburys store they have a cash machine that sorts it out for you and then you receive a receipt and simply cash it in. The thing i liked about this was that a small amount goes to charity about 6pence out of every pound(i presume we are talking engl.ish money here?) anyway if that doesn't appeal to you try the post office as long as you sort it into bags that should be fine.

not really you need to go into sainsburys it has a machine that will convert your pennies into cash for a fee.

Mr M
A bank cannot refuse to accept genuine money. For coins of all denominations sort them into money bags - you can get these from your bank

If a bank issue a note/coin it is forever more obliged to pay the holder of that note/coin the stated amount of money - even if it is no longer in circulation.

They accept all money. But they hate it if you mix the 1ps with the 2ps

if you call at your bank and ask them for some money bags.
before you take them in they will accept them. put a pounds worth of copper in each bag .
this is the only way they will accept them.
