According to Dave Ramsey, You should invest in mutual funds and a Roth IRA. |

A savings account will yield bank interest that can be quite a lot if you leave it in there and not touch it for a long time, especially with 8 grand. |

I would talk to a financial advisor, you really need to look at your financial picture, are you invest in a retirement account, do you have an emergency fund, a cushion in case you lose your job or have an unexcepted situtation arise. There a lot of questions that you need to ask, in order to make an Educated Desicion. |

First thing: stop buying lottery tickets. They sell them for a reason, it makes Them money not you.
I'd suggest taking most of your money out of your checking account as that is probably not giving you any interest at all. I think Etrade offers about 4.5% on their accounts so that is worth looking into. I'd take 5000.00 and invest into a cd, and leave the balance in an interest bearing account either checking or savings. If you have a job or income you could try opening a roth ira and buying stocks as your capital allows. I don;t think you can do this with gift money though you could check with your local bank they would know for sure. Good luck and congrats on having savings at all most americans don't have any!!! |

Start a Roth IRA. It's post tax investment, so you won't be taxed on the back end.
Lottery tickets? Ha, dry humor is lovely.

well that doesn't sound like lots of money for investment purposes... the CD accounts if you're lucky would give you 4-5.X interest in average... lottery would be testing ur luck,,, i would say keep on working,, sadly , u can try many thing but theres always a risk of losing money,, the idea would be to buy a house or asset that doesnt depreciate, but again, that's not a lot of money |

Buy a gun and a fast motorcycle. Find a bank. Next..... well you see where i'm going with this. You said nothing about legality! And your odds are probably better than the lotto. Good Luck |

Open a savings account and start earning interest.
Stock market is a candidate but given current volatility, who knows what will happen. Safety is well sought these days. |

Wow. I am surprised lottery tickets aren't working out for you. I always thought they were a sure thing.
If you don't want to get risky with it you could put it in a 1-2 year investment with your current bank. |
