Try this calculator:
http://www.entitledto.co.uk/
Everyone in the UK gets Child benefit of £18.10 a week regardless of their income. You should have received a Child Benefit Claim form in your Bounty Pack at Hospital. If you didn't, contact the DSS for one.
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/childbenefit/
If you are on a low income you might get Child Tax Credit. I beleive you can get that if you earn up to £50,000 per year, although the amount becomes less the more you earn. Contact the Tax Credits Office. If you or your partner is working more than 16 hours per week and on a lower income you might also get Working Tax Credit.
http://www.taxcredits.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/HomeNew.aspx
If you are on one of the lowest incomes or income support/JSA etc you might get a Surestart Grant of £500 to buy things for the baby. My partner works fulltime but we got this as he's only on minimum wage so our income is pretty low.

Congrats, btw! |

All the details should be in the Bounty booklets given to you with the free samples etc in around the time your baby is born. You need to register the birth, and then send the birth certificate with a child benefit application form. Other benefits are dependent on whether you return to work / the family income. |

OK you are entitled to
child benefit - regardless of income
If you are both working you may be entitled to working tax credits and child tax credits. The upper limit is around 50,000 a year.
Call the tax credit hotline or apply online at the inland revenue website.
If you are on a low income your 250 pounds I believe could be topped up to 500 but whatever it is you can't ever touch it.
If you are in council accomodation/ rented you may be entitled to help towards the rent
Lowish incomes - you may be entitled to Council tax benefit . Apply to local council. You get extra amount applicable for each child.
Also worth going to citizens advice if you want expert advice.
If you are on maternity leave then that is classed as working for tax credits. If you chose not to continue working then you may still be eligible for child tax credits ...depends on really how much your combined annual income is..
www.entitledto.com is the very best in websites. Go and work out what you are entitled to without revealing to us the amounts involved!!!
Good luck and congratulations on the little one! |

I cant believe some people r so f**king rude!!!!! Your exactly right, you and your partner both work so you should be entitled to claim something back!! I have just found out im 6 weeks pregant and me and partner both work full time - weve been paying taxes for god knows how many years so were gonnna get whatever we can, y the hell not! Even tho you and your partner are both working, if your paying for child care you should still be entitled to at least 40% of your rent and council tax paid for u! Your local council should have an online calculator so you can see.
People who dont have kids just dont know how expensive it is! I want to return to work after having my baby and its going to cost £800 a month n childcare, and im only entitled to £140 a month child tax credit to help with that!
Hope you manage to get it all sorted! |

Ignore the stupid people in the world!!
Right, you obviously work, so you can now claim: Working Tax Credit, with a childcare element if you pay childcare (this will be assessed on you and your partners hours and income).
Child tax credit: This is also dependent on income but you can claim it whether you are working or not.
Child Benefit - this is only 18.10 a week, but everyone is entitiled to it, once you have claimed child benefit (which you have to do before the tax credits) then you will automatically be sent your trust fund voucher. If your income is below a certain amount, you get a further 250 voucher when the baby turns 1. Then they automatically send you another 1 (or 2 obviously) again when the baby's 7.
The only other thing I can think of (but I don't think you'll qualify for if you both work as your income will be too high, but you never know!) is a sure start maternity grant, which is a one-off payment of £500, again you need to claim child benefit AND child tax credit first too.
If you pop to, or ring, your local CAB or jobcentre they can advise you a bit more.
Congratulations on your little bundle!

Well said Gazelle! Childless couples who worked hard and honestly to get where they are and contribute to society do deserve a bonus too. That brat producing woman should get the extra money herself. |

Yes dear, the benefits system is most confusing.
Maybe thats why it's best to be able to support yourself before having a child ! |
