don't hurt me this time | I have mom's blank checks...can i write a check to myself or a family friend? |
my mom is in europe for a 3 weeks. it's the 2nd week and i'll be out of food by the weekend. and of course my mom left me money to buy food but i foolishly had a "friend" spend the night and i woke up and she and my money was gone. i'm not going to bother my mom during her family vacation because it's going to worry her too much. anyway, tomorrow i'm going to see if i can use one of the blank (but signed) checks i have from my mom at our usual grocery store. but if that doesn't work, can i write a check to myself or maybe a family friend and they'll give me the cash? nothing excessive, just like 75 dollars for food to last me until she comes home? i know i screwed up, so just the answer to the question would be appreciated. thank you. |

Only do what your Mom would approve of. Even though you're young, and even though you're family, writing checks without her permission is still fraud (a serious crime.)
You will not be able to write a check in the grocery store, as most stores now ask for I.D. when you write a check (to insure you're not passing fake checks, or stealing someone else's.) Since the identity on the check would not match the identity on your license, you'd be out of luck.
If your Mom would be O.K. with it, you could certainly write a check to a family friend and have them give you cash. Of course that means the family friend needs to be O.K. with it, too.
*Also,
When your Mom comes home and asks why you had to use a check or two, you're going to have to explain yourself anyways. Honesty is the best policy, especially when you're at the age where you're still trying to build up the trust of your parents. If you're upfront with your Mom from the beginning, it may prevent a harsher punishment later on.
Be careful who you give a check to; try to stick with a close family friend and not the type of "friend" that stole your money in the first place. Also, if you haven't written a check before, consult someone close to you for that as well. |

I would confront this "friend" tell her you need the money for food because your mom is not going to be back fro a while, if not then I would try and make some money. If you have a blank check then you could deposit into your bank account if you have one if not then it depends on the store they will most likely take it. |

Technically that's check fraud, but if you talk to your mom beforehand, it's likely that nobody will press charges against you.
You shouldn't use it to get cash, though. Use it to actually pay for the food. Make one big shopping trip for the last one or two weeks, and pay with a check. Paying with a check to get cash looks suspicious, and remember, you are committing a crime, so you want to make it look as normal as possible. |

you cant take the check to a store bc they usually check id now sometiems its even required to punch in a drivers lisense number into their computer.. so yes you can write the check in the same color ink and preferably the same handwriting to yourself. or a trusted FAMILY member! |

your best bet is to get the "so called friend" to give you back your money . i f they won't tell them you are going to report it stolen & the details. Then call your mom tell her what happened, cause trying to lie your way out of will only make it worse, & are you sure you still have all the checks your mom signed, that your little thief friend didn't steal one of them also.If they are signed by your mom they can be cashed regardless of who fills in the rest of the blanks , if they make them out to themselves & have a legal I.D. You got yourself in quite a mess young one..I hope your friend gives you back the money, then this will all be okay If your mom left you the check for food & you go with her often to the store, & they know you, you may be able to use one with no problem.to get your food. My best wishes for you to do the right thing,,& your "friend to do the right thing" you might try telling her you will go to her parents about this if you have too.. If you are worried about people not liking you because you tell.. well I don't think that will happen, your just letting others know you will not be taken advantage of, & what kind of person this "friend" really is.. Good luck

Write the check to yourself and see if the bank will cash it, Never let anyone near your money. Only buy food with the money. You could always go to the store and see if they will take the check and tell them its for food only. If you have a relative nearby...write the check to them and have them go with you to the store and buy your food. |

if you have a cheque signature by your mother, you can write your name and withdraw the money u want. this doesn't create any problem.

And your mom is on a "family vacation" in Europe for 3 weeks and you're not with her? What's up with that? Are you not in the 'family' anymore?
If she's already signed the checks, you should use them at the grocery store. Nobody will fault you for that.
Harsh, but maybe a call to family services in your state might make your mom sit up and take notice for leaving you behind.
Personally, I'd slap her silly for this crap.
